Would you?.....110k

Would you buy a 2003 VRS with 110k on the clock?

Have been offered the car for £3500. Car has been sat on motorway for most of its live. 1 owner, full service history with cambelt and water-pump at 70k. Car is very tidy, a few small scratches but only surface ones. Recent tyres on front, with 12 months mot. Car is completely standard, and although I've only driven it once, drove like new.

Although I realise engine and gearbox are both usually good for a lot more miles, I've seen ones with 185k on original engine and box, milage is still a bit of a concern.

If I bought the car and in a worst case scenario had to put a replacement engine in, what sort of cost would I be looking at.

Cheers in advance, Kev.....

Re: Would you?.....110k

Get it bought
throw some syth 5/30 in it from now on
mines done 110k,mileage isnt a issue to engines of todays standards
should be good for 200k at least id have thought. i had a volvo t5 that had done 286k on the original engine and turbo gearbox also a accord that had done 376k and we are talking miles,

long as the history's complete id have a go at it

you could throw a engine in from a breaker it if it needed one, whch i doubt it would unless you cane it to death and neglect it.
price varies depending on breakers price for the lump and who puts it in for you .would have thought all vag group 18t engines will be the same internals etc.

get it bought

Re: Would you?.....110k

My VRS has done 120k and still drives fantastic. My g/f uses it mostly and doesnt do that much mileage (or give it too much welly - thats my sunday job!) My SLX tdi Octi had done 175k, still felt as tight as the day i collected it new and was still going strong before someone destroyed it in a crash. The one I bought for my Dad 120k. All mostly in a straight line up and down the motorway. I dont consider mileage to be a major problem on a modern car and especially a german modern car if everything else is ok and the price is right. Take it into consideration but look at the overall package.

The fact its been sat on a motorway most of its life wont harm it and as long as the service intervals have been taken care of you will be fine mate

Re: Would you?.....110k

the 110k car, cushty life on the motorway. yes?

How about my old RS; 138,000 miles in 30 months. Cushty life on the motorway? yes or no?

Correct answer for mine is NO. OK it did do a lot of motorway miles, but it also did about 12,500 track miles

Re: Would you?.....110k

I would buy a 110,000 miler, but I don't think you would have to for that money. I'm sure ive seen them for far less...
