1.6 FSI - A Rare Sight On Our Roads?

Over the past week or so, the Which? thread got me thinking about the comments and diesels in particular.

When I am out and about, I will always see Octy IIs around but never really take too much notice.

As sad as it may seem, I have kept a mental note this week of how many Octy IIs I have seen and I have seen 34. All of which were diesels.

I own the 1.6 FSI and never see the petrol version other than mine.

So, who else owns a 1.6 FSI??? Anyone?

Yup, I own one aswell. Although with the engine problems I have had, I maybe should have opted for a different engine.

Do the 1.6l and2.0l FSIs have the same badge on them? If so, I suppose it may be difficult to tell them apart.

All the Octy IIs I could identify were diesels.

There are a couple of vRSs I see occasionally but I can't tell if they are TDI or TFSI.

Yeah, see plenty of VRSs around Peterborough and a mixture of petrol and diesel. Haven't included these in my figure.

May I ask what problems you've had? Mines been ok so far. Had it almost a year now and am very happy with it, but am surprised that I never see another FSI here.

SEAT are still putting it in the Leon and don't even offer the FSI

Re: 1.6 FSI - A Rare Sight On Our Roads?

I would say the 1.6 FSI has the FSI written with black and 2.0 FSI has a red "i".

I also have 1.6 FSI, 25k km, very happy.

Re: 1.6 FSI - A Rare Sight On Our Roads?

Mine's a 1.6 FSi and my local dealer had a demonstrator/used car in stock with the same engine when I wanted a test drive. Since the badging is quite small you have to get very close to the car in front in order to read it

You just made me go out with a torch to check the colour of my "I". (Red, by the way). How sad does that make me??!!

Does anyone else have an L&K? I have had mine over a year and only ever seen one other.

It is, I have heard, still used in 'emerging' markets e.g. Asia and the Far East

That's got me thinking; my vRS TDI has the 'RS' on the boot in Black. Does the TFSI engined vRS have their 'RS' in Red? Or are the badges the same so that you cannot visually tell the difference.

On the point of the thread; I have seen the occaisional FSI badged car but like most others have commented, TDI seems to rule the roost.

Am I right in thinking one exhaust pipe = petrol and two = diesel?

Nope! Octy I had a single rectangular pipe,

but Octy II vRS (petrol and diesel) have a twin circular pipe with an angled cut.

But every diesel I see has 2 pipes at the back and my FSI petrol has only 1.

I think we are both right.

On the vRS there is no difference in the twin circular pipes between TFSI and TDI BUT

on other models the single pipe for FSI and twin (curved downward pointing) for TDI principle is correct.

Re: 1.6 FSI - A Rare Sight On Our Roads?

Interesting this. I have just taken delivery of a 2.0 l FSI and it has twin exhaust pipes and the i on the rear badge is red!

Does that help or confuse?!
