1.8T engine - 20,000 mile service?!

Hello fellow Octavians...

Could any of you shed some light on this please... I have tried the search engine and phoned around four dealers and im still none the wiser.

What does a 20,000 miles service of my 2002 1.8T Octavia actually consist of and how much should I be looking to pay? I thought it was simply an oil and filter change as well as a general look over and adjust service ie an interim/minor service? Transcity of Walthamstow however say it will be £242 and that it is "much more than just an oil and filter change. A 20,000 mile service is a major one as is the 40,000 and 60,000 one" ! Everywhere else agreed it was just an interim service however. For information these were the other quoted prices:

Le Car Centre - Finchley - £170
Welham Green cars - £250
MKG - £185.26 - Stevenage (they also mentioned they replace the pollen filter, none of the others did)
Preston Motors - Forest Gate - £95.20 + vat and parts!

So theres a fair bit of variation there. Any advice would be greatfully recieved. I intend to see this baby is looked after 100%

As a side note; does anyone know the actual oil they will use (the non long life stuff) as the manual simply gives a VW specification number.

Mods - apoligies - I have made the post in new octavia and I should of course have placed it in 'Octavia'. Apoligies again, if it could be moved...

Though I am now a "new octavia", I had a vRS 2003 model for 20 months from new, only 12000 miles by then, but at the 12 month [main dealer] service it seemed to me it just had a very expensive oil change £140.

I gather you can use ANY recognised garage, that will stamp your book, and still keep in warranty. As for oil, tell them what you want, and if you are lucky they might put it in. Wouldn't go below at least semi synthetic myself.

Hi
20k service consists of oil and oil filter and the pollon filter.
These are replaced every 20k.
40k is oil , air , fuel and pollon.Spark plugs for the petrols.
But every 10,30,50,70 etc are oil filter replacements.
You can have a garage service your car that is not a dealer.
This can be a bit cheaper than dealers.
We do servicing and as part of the service check we put on the diagnostics to check them out.
Use genuie parts.
As for the oil we use fully synthetic oil.Just dont go for the full out one at £45 from dealers if it is not on variable services.
