1.9 tdi PD cut out

Hello All,
I hope some one can help i have an 2005 octy 2 tdi pd 105bhp (40 000klms)this morning the car let me down for the frist time every in the middle of a junction. the car cut out when idling and would not restart??. i got a recovery service while waitng the 2 hrs for pick up i check usual things noitced water on dip stick for the oil?? the water is clear and clean i opened the filling cap for the water after the car was off about 1 hour and i heard a hiss so this means its holding pressure i cant be the head gasget any other ideas out their i drive a lot of short distances 3 miles or so there is milky white sticky stuff on the oil cap but this is normal with short drives???

Condensation inside the engine can cause 'mayonnaise' if you only do short runs, as it doesn't get hot enough to drive out the moisture. Depending on which bit of the head gasket has gone (if it's the head gasket at all!), you may still retain pressure in the coolant system, so don't take that as ultimate proof of it being OK - especially considering the mayo and water on the dipstick. Then again, I've not heard of head gasket issues on the 1.9 diesels...

Can't help with it cutting out...

Mine did this and left me stranded on the M3. Check the Fuel Pump fuse, as these are known to either work loose or fail, according to the Skoda Assist man (fantastic service!!) who got me going again!
