1.9tdi questions..

What euro rating is the PD105?

In the tech specs you get it mentions a euro 3 and a euro 4 engine...
and something to do with a particulate filter.

I meant to ask this question a couple of weeks ago, it'll make a difference to how much tax you pay if it's a company car won't it?

Yup.

In the manual for the car, it says something about a particulate filter, and a code on the car spec if yours has one..
interestingly it also has 2 different 2.0tdi engines.. more powerful one

The Vehicle Certification Agency's website where you can look up the CO2 emissions for your car lists two 105bhp diesel engines for the New Octavia. They are the 1.9TDi (105bhp) M5 and the 1.9TDi PD (105bhp) DSG D6. Both are EU4. The former's emissions are 143 g/km which puts it in VED Band C (licence £115 PA) and the latter's are 162 g/km putting it in Band D (licence £135 PA).

Maybe early versions were EU3 and the 1.9 has been tinkered with to make it EU4 compliant. I noticed when I ordered mine that the DSG box affected the emmisions.

When Skoda brought out the Octy II 1.9 TDi they were a bit too quick off the mark and didn't have the bit of paper to say the car was EU IV compliant. Strange though because it was exactly the same engine as the Golf V which was EU IV compliant from day one.

My understanding is that some new diesel engines with capacities generally below 2 litre meet the EU IV standard without a particulate filter. This includes the VAG 1.9 TDi's and the golf V 2.0TDI which falls in just below the limit.

The Octy2 2.0 TDi however has been fitted with a particulate filter to meet EU IV (probably because it's a bigger car and produces slightly more particulates) which removes 90% more particulates than the Golf V produces.

After January, the 3% tax saving will no longer apply for new EU IV cars anyway. No doubt in the future though, EU V (or something) will be introduced with another tax incentive (and associated reduced particulate limits to meet the standard). The 2.0 TDI Golf will no longer comply but there's a pretty good chance the equivalent Octy II (with its particulate filter) will.

I'm glad I went for the Octy then.
