100+ miles & 42mpg in TFSI

Having filled the car up at a cost of £60 I decided to see how economical I could be and joined the rest of the Sunday drivers for a trip up the coast to Dunstanburgh Castle.

The round trip was over 100 miles and I achieved a combined average of 42 mpg.

It was a mixture of dual carriageway, single carriageway A roads and some B roads. I stuck to 60mph on the dual carriage way and between 50mph and 60mph on the single carriageway roads.

It was also strangely relaxing to drive so sedately

You seem to change your cars every 2 years, will you be buying diesel next then?

vRS DSG with paddles?

Very perceptive James but I may keep this one another year or so. The VRs TDi is becoming more appealing though, maybe the estate next time too.

If you can get DSG with flappy paddles on the TDi that would be an interesting option

And if you are going to drive slow enough to do this , why bother buying a vrs?

I got the VRs as a car for all occasions.

Today I was out with my wife and little girl so we took it easy and with the rising cost of fuel that is another incentive to go slow.

Another day I might be out on my own in which case I may have a more spirited drive.
