| 2nd year warranty or year of free services A friend of mine is picking up his Octavia over the weekend. It is 2yrs old, got approx. 20k miles on it. It has still got a year of the maufacturers warranty and it was just recently serviced. The dealer has offered him either a second year of warranty on the vehicle or a couple of years worth of free servicing. At 20k service intervals he would probably get a couple of services from the deal. Personally I'd be tempted by the peace of mind of the extra years warranty - which would you take? |

| Re: 2nd year warranty or year of free services Oh... He was told that at 2yrs old it still had a year of manufacturers warranty left. If it's totally out of warranty then I'll suggest he takes that option then. Ta |

| Re: 2nd year warranty or year of free services I was offered a similar deal when I bought a new Octavia last October, but it did not involve warranty. It was take to out a finance package with Skoda finance (which I didn't need) and get free servicing for three years, but it would mean reverting to annual servicing instead of variable servicing. I worked out that in the three years on variable servicing, I would only require one service and that was far cheaper than the interest paid on the finance deal. So I told them they could stuff their deal. Mac

| Re: 2nd year warranty or year of free services That was for the MK1, that used to have 3 years unlimited, When the MK2 came out Skoda reduced it to 2 years unlimited or 60K miles. But if your correct i have been told porkies by Skoda mine will be 3 in September and is at 69K at the moment and could do with some free work

| Re: 2nd year warranty or year of free services The whole two year free servicing is a joke on variable servicing, I had one service for free at 18K and the second one at 36K I will have to pay for.

I was told that I've got original manufacturers warranty on the vehicle until December 2009 or 60k miles - whichever sooner. | |

| Re: 2nd year warranty or year of free services Then you have good warranties. In Finland they only give EUs min. 2 year warranty. That goes to all VAG cars (Audi, Seat, Skoda and VW). |

| Re: 2nd year warranty or year of free services Since I do 20k a year, I'm going to get at least three, but I dare say I'm paying more than you are. It's definitely something to consider careful. |

| Re: 2nd year warranty or year of free services I took the 3 years finance at 4.8% as even if I had the money I could probably put it in a bank account and earn enough to cover it. But the clincher was three years free servicing, which, if you read the finance agreement, you can opt for either annual/10k or variable servicing. The car will have been set to var service from the garage as this means you can change your mind later whereas if they set it for annual/10k there is no way to opt for variable / extended servicing with the same oil (also the onboard computer will not have been set to monitor the car's engine wear etc) Not sure where your car came from (imports have only two years), but UK cars have three years in total. 2 years unlimited mileage from manufacturer and upto one year dealer upto 60k miles. Also any franchised dealer would sell a used vehicle with a minimum of one year warranty. I would go for servicing.

I've now done 32K in mine (it's a year old in two weeks), when we bought it they went on about the free servicing deal, but then put the car on variable so you only get one free service, because it's free for two years or 30K whichever comes sooner, I suppose another will be due at around 35K and we'll have to pay for it

| Re: 2nd year warranty or year of free services Yes. When the mk1 was launched it had 3yr unlimited warranty. I think this only lasted for 1 or 2 years. Also 3 years free servicing I think. Of course non varable back then. |

| ECUless | Re: 2nd year warranty or year of free services The extra year of warranty does sound attractive, but you need to bear in mind that it is very unlikely to be a continuation of Skodas new car warranty. What you are likely to find is that it will be a warranty supplied by a warranty company, which will have all sorts of conditions such as: diagnostics not covered - you pay labour rate capped - you have to make up the hourly difference between what they pay and what the garage charge a maximum amount that they will pay per claim - if it is exceeded you pay the difference the list of parts and wear and tear items that they will not cover c ould be extensive The extra year of servicing could cost them more than the warranty, and you might be lucky and get them to do the cam belt if you reach the mileage. For peace of mind you could look at purchasing a warranty yourself. Skoda did do a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty up until 2002/2003, when they changed it to 2 years unlimited mileage with a 1 year importer top up upto 60000 miles. |
