| 40k service Phoned a couple of local dealerships and they both wanted £300 for the 40k service. I think this is ridiculous for an oil change, replacing pollen filter and some inspection work. So I have bought my own oil (that way I know exactly the stuff I want is going in), Shell Ultra Helix Extra 507.0 5x1 Litre at £9.99 each, I'm buying the genuine VAG fuel, air, oil and pollen (expensive activated carbon one) filters for a total of £60 inc vat and I'm taking it to a local garage that I trust to do the work. Even with the expensive genuine parts and the air and fuel filters I'm changing early, I'll save a total of £120 over the dealer AND I'll trust the inspection work has been done thoroughly AND I can have it done on Saturday and won't have to suffer the dealer service desk B.S. ![]() Last edited by wega3k; 30-04-2007 at 20:49. |

| Re: 40k service Had my 40k service done a week or so ago, came to £350 as it needed new pads all round, wiper blades, unblock the rear washer and so on.

| Re: 40k service In my service book, it says fuel filter should be drained and air filter changed at 40k I think. Will go and check. ![]() |

| Re: 40k service 1.9Tdi 105. Yeah, it's only a fuel filter drain at 40k, the change is at 60k as you said. And the air filter is 60k too. Thanks . Tidy saving there. Does much water tend to come out of the fuel filter? One other thing I'm not clear on. Should the brake fluid be topped up or should it be replaced? The car is at 39k miles and nearly 2 years old. Thanks! |

| Re: 40k service Should ideally be replaced at 2 years. IIRC there isnt a water drain on the new bath type filters. |

| Re: 40k service So just leave fuel and air another 20k then? Nothing to be gained but a dent in the wallet by doing them early? |

| Re: 40k service Well to be honest if it was mine i'd do them. It does make a difference. I think its just VAG's way of appealing to lease compaines by putting most of the service parts out of the regular servicing lifespan. |

| Briskodian | Re: 40k service I change air filters every 10-20k and fuel filters every 20 to 40k miles. As Ross says it makes one hell of a difference.

| Re: 40k service Geez, I knew the UK was getting expensive, but...Had my 1.9 tdi 105 in for its 60k service (kilometres, = 40k miles) last week, €272 or about £185. EDIT: ANd that included changing the winter tyres to summer tyres.
