| Briskodian | 458.5 miles on one tank of fuel in Octavia vRS mark II I decided to be as frugal as possible since I last refueled my Octavia vRS mark II and although I had the intention to fill up before hand I decided to wait a little longer. I probably shouldn't boast about this but I got 458.5 miles from a full tank of petrol which is pretty impressive. With 54.46 out of 55 litres needing to be filled it was too close to risk repeating or trying to beat but at least it answers my question in this thread, http://www.briskoda.net/forums/new-o...g-light/50067/ I got over 25 miles after the trip computer said I had 0 miles remaining. |

| Re: 458.5 miles on one tank of fuel in Octavia vRS mark II I struggle to get 450 miles usually, but I don't use the expansion tank and I like to have a lot of fun. I've actually not done a 100% fill for ages - I try and do a "max range from £20" every time I fill up - At the moment I'm getting around 230 miles with diesel at 99.9 / 98.9, which ain't too bad. ![]()

| Re: 458.5 miles on one tank of fuel in Octavia vRS mark II Orinj, I think tank holds a little more than 55 litres. The octy 1 IIRC has the same size tank and I could get much closer to 55 litres with the OBC saying I still had 10 miles left. I could do 400 in the octy 1 vRS quiet easily. What size tank does the fabia have, for comparison purposes.

| Briskodian | Re: 458.5 miles on one tank of fuel in Octavia vRS mark II GAFF, The trip computer was averaging 40mpg or more although the actual figure is 38mpg when you calculate it. Makefish, actually it wasn't as mundane a drive as you might expect. Although I was driving conservatively on purpose the journeys themselves were not hindered a great deal by the less aggressive driving. On some of the motorways I was forced to drive around 50 - 60mph and if this is done in sixth gear, the 40mpg soon creeps up. The counter hovered around 42 - 43 mpg over a lot of the journey and I made sure I did plenty of coasting. Most of it came down to not accelerating too quickly in lower gears and changing up as soon as possible. I did go round some corners faster than I should have so that I wouldn't lose momentum through unneccessary braking. Thankfully the car proved itself quite capable in this matter. |

| Re: 458.5 miles on one tank of fuel in Octavia vRS mark II Jaysus fair play to ya. I found on Motorway cruising at around 70Mph there was no way I could get 40 Mpg, although I had cruise on...maybe I have Climate set up incorrectly I went to Galway last weekend and only averaged 36ish Mpg. Is the cruise control a little heavy on the fuel efficiency ?

It's rare that you will drive along the motorway and do 70 mph consistantly for a long duration. With the traffic the way it is we regularly have to over take slower vehicles, get past slow lorries overtaking fast lorries or just slow down naturally due to the build up of traffic. This makes the use of cruise control a limited benefit that uses more fuel.

| Re: 458.5 miles on one tank of fuel in Octavia vRS mark II I used to get 350mile out of my Fabia before and after remapping. I think that is about 34 mpg ? I was happy enough with that considering the excersize it got ![]() [I got 112 mile out of a tank around Donnington ] |

| Briskodian | Re: 458.5 miles on one tank of fuel in Octavia vRS mark II I have cruise and used properly at high speeds and disengaging it rather than breaking does seem to improve fuel efficiency. Just make sure you don't use cruise up to a junction and then break as I imagine this is were you'd reck your fuel economy. Also using the resume function uses loads of fuel as it accelerates quite hard! Anyway who buys an Octy VRS for fuel economy anyway? Does using 98 RON give you better fuel economy?

If you use it on flat roads and up slight hills it improves the MPG by only using part throttle. In the MK1 Octavia you cant even hear the turbo under acceleration with cruise. I once set cruise to 60mph then slowed down to 30, stuck it in 2nd gear and pressed "Res". I was expecting it to accelerate well but it was very frugal and the turbo never really came on boost. What cruise cant do is anticipate junctions etc. thats where a person can be more economical. I'm currently anticipating 400 miles from my car on Sainsbury SUL. That is with careful use of cruise and lots of thinking ahead. Last edited by Goochie; 18-05-2006 at 16:46.

| Re: 458.5 miles on one tank of fuel in Octavia vRS mark II I once tried for a week to drive like an old granny and i manage 47mpg for that week in the rs mk1 which i thought was great so getting 450 out of tank is bloody good |

" Good God man, that's not why you bought a vRS surely? How anyone could drive at that speed on a motorway defies belief! With your obsession on fuel consumption, me thinks you should have bought a Fabia!! |

There is no way I drive like that normally and fuel economy is certainly not an obsession, especially with the way I have been driving in the last few days since the refill. My car felt like a wild lion that had been locked in a cage desperate to get out and run. I've certainly been allowing it to run and chase after as much tarmac as it can eat up. Incidently, I had a Fabia before I changed to the Octavia.
