Looks the business though. Doesn't look like an old hoover filter like most of the others.

Have you perhaps got part of the filter kit vibrating against, say, the battery surround?

Is the main engine cover secure, I found that mine used to pop out of its rubber bung mountings? Best to put it onto the engine in two parts, central panel first, followed by outer surround.

The Carbonio intake for the TFSI took a bit of a pounding from users claiming there was little or no gain from it!. I would beg to differ and a while back contemplated changing back to it from the EVOMS (at the time the car was suffering badly from fuel cut issues) and if I had'nt sold the darn thing I have no doubt that it would be on the car today as you get quite a nice sound from it an NO issues with fueling.

Unfortunately not, sold that quite some time ago and was the justification to SWMBO in getting the EVOMS!

K&N arnt the best, there over rated
ITG's are the dog's.
Unless you getting a lan pipe that can get direct cool air, your better off using an uprated panel filter, cause the air box sucks in cool air from behind the wing, where as the crappy filters that bolt on to your MAF sensor suck in hot air from the engine.
They my look good but they will make less power than a panel filter
Green cotton are also a good make.

I've had a good look around and I can't isolate the noise, the filter kit does make it more pronounced but it's also there when the OEM kit is on.

It sounds like something plastic rattling at a fairly high frequency and as it's only there when the engine is working under load. The obvious place was the plastic intake pipe mounted directly behind the block as it enters the turbo but nothing obvious

.

There is also lots of vibration invading the cabin making the rear view mirror unuseable when accelerating due to vibration. I'll throw it back to the dealer when the service is due.

The TDI actually takes air directly from the front of the car via a plastic plenum that allows the air to pass straight through it while the engine pulls air from the side of it, this presumabley eliminates the ram air effect and prevents excessive water from entering the intake system.

Quite correct and it is very well designed.

In fitting my induction kit I have modified this with a baffle to negate the plenum and kept the U shaped intake trunking, to provide a ram air feed into the bottom of the area occupied by the filter. It seems to do the trick quite well (except when dawdling around town when under bonnet heat build up is inevitable).

Not an iPhone I'm afraid, it's the iPod touch 16GB and very good it is too. Got SWMBO one for christmas as well

I'm still firmly entrenched in the N95 "lightsabre" camp

Regarding the intake system - some good ideas you have there, I might have a fiddle with the system and see what I can come up with, I have allsorts of flexi ducting and such like so I may well come up with the ultimate pikey mod

.

It doesnt help having a full belly pan under the engine trapping all that hot air.

Hadn't mentioned so far, but I have got a load of plastic corex board made into a surround similar to the EVOMS one, held together with duck tape and some thick tinfoil (an old ready roast tray) to provide a heatshield by the coolant pipe to contain the ram fed cold air as best possible.

It seems to work pretty well and definitely from the 'Heath Robinson' stable; been in the car for about six weeks and not fallen to bits yet.

I see what you've done, shielded the filter from any heat source like the rad and coolant pipes. I presume the U shaped tube is ramming cold air into the bottom right corner of the enclosure?

Correct; well bottom left actually as viewed in the photos (toward the centre of the car). In its OEM position with the bottom end secured with a couple of cable ties to stop it flapping around.

It also means that if any water/spray gets in, it falls to the bottom of the enclosure without, hopefully, being sucked in by the filter.

I considered leaving the U shaped tube out and the top intake area open, which would have given probably a better ram effect, but decided this would be at the increased risk of water ingestion.
