airbag warning light

Went to drive off today not having used car for a week and the airbag warning light came on and the maxi dot display say airbag fault.

I suppose I'm going to have to arrange for the car to go to the dealers 35 miles away - it was only down there two weeks ago having a known speaker recall issue sorted out.

Assuming its some electrical problem rather than the airbag itself would they deploy in the event of an accident if its an electrical problem with the warning itself?

Has anyone else had problems with the airbag warning light coming on (it stays on whilst driving)?

I think I would get it booked in sooner rather than later.

Re: airbag warning light

Mine did this a couple of weeks ago - the car was 2 months old at that point. i took it into my dealer and they fixed it in a couple of hours. They said it needed some modified wiring on the drivers seat. Seems to have done the trick...

IIRC Airbags will not deploy if warning is active.

Correct, known issue (also effects other VAG vehicles) new connector diesign stops pins moving in the plug and altering the resistance.

Re: airbag warning light

I have it just now. It happened yesterday evening, and I'm just back from the dealer. They say it's the passenger side airbag and it needs to be replaced, so I'll need to go back tomorrow morning, since they don't have one at the moment...
Sad anyway, my car is just 2 months old...

Re: airbag warning light

I had this on mine the same day I picked my car up Needed new passenger side airbag which they dont keep in stock (explosion risk).

Dealer said airbags will not deploy if there is a fault in the system ie light on.

All sorted now but a pain in the butt @ the time.

Re: airbag warning light

Tis a pain, but they have since found its not the airbag at fault, and IIRC the airbag shouldnt be replaced, just the connector.

Re: airbag warning light

Does this mean more trouble ahead because I haven't had a new connector or would they have replaced the connector along with the airbag?

Re: airbag warning light

I don't think it's a recall - It's a TSB.

And only applies to people with issues, not a preventative measure.

Re: airbag warning light

mines going to the dealers monday when I phoned up it I was told it might be because of water penetration with the wet weather we have had (which sounded like a load of drivel to me) - perhaps I should point them in the direction of the connectors/recall (my car was new Mar 06)?

if the wires are incorrect how come the warning light has only just come on - why not earlier eg shortly after taking delivery?

if this is a recall why aren't all recall items dealt with in one go - I only had the speakers fixed 2 weeks ago and that apparently was a recall item

Re: airbag warning light

Had a problem with air bag fault from new on my VRS, the dealer had arranged to have a chameleon hands free kit fitted by a third party company before collection. In order to get access to fit and wire the phone cradle they have to remove the glove box, guess what, inside the glove box is the selector switch for arming/ disarming the passenger air bag. When they re-fitted the glove box they did not fit the connector correctly on the back of the switch. The dealer subsequently fixed the problem in 20 minutes whilst pouring coffee down my neck.

Hope this helps.

Re: airbag warning light

Mine came up on my '06 Elegance after I moved the seats to hoover under them. It came up the day before the car was returned to my company as I was leaving, they thought I did it on purpose..............w@nk*rs.

Re: airbag warning light

Had an 05 L&K, the Airbag warning light came on 13 times in 15 months. Spent 3 months at the dealer trying to fix and in the end Skoda took back the car.

Am now in an 07 vRS and cross fingers no air bag faults.
