Exclamation Aircon Failure or Turbocharger overheat

Guys,

I got a very unpleasant observation yesterday that I would like to share with you and potentially to receive some feedback regarding any similar experiences.

I'm running with my Octy II 2.0 TDI 140 at ~ 140 km/h (87 mph) - at 6-th gear this is 2500-2600 rev./min.
When the outside temperature is 38 degrees the aircondition stops working.

The more surprisingly however, is that if the vehicle is driven at speed (engine revolutions) below effective turbocharger zone ( <1750 revolutions per minute) the aircondition starts working imediately.

Should the outside temperature drops below 35 degrees the aircon is back fully operational.

Does anyone has any idea is this a technical problem with the car (it's brand new 12 000 kms so far) or this is conceptual problem of the TDI

I have no idea what the problem could be, but at 38 degrees you can't be in the UK today If you were in the UK it would be 38 mm of rain. More seriously though your Octy must still be in warranty.

I dont quite know the makeup of your exact aircon compressor but is it possible you have intermittant clutch slip, on it on its way out?

Re: Aircon Failure or Turbocharger overheat

Yes, I definatelly prefer to drive on 38 degrees istead of 38 mm rain I'm in the South East of Europe in small country called Bulgaria. I don't think that the local dealer (covering the warranty) is competent enough to address the issue properly so I'm trying here first (before calling them)

can you provide more details on that please. The aircon is an original equipment on Octavia Elegance I don't know anything about it.

Re: Aircon Failure or Turbocharger overheat

This might be rubbish information, but on my previous car the manual stated that the ECU cuts out the A/C, when the engine is under high load. I'm not sure the octavia does this but it wouldn't surprise me.

Re: Aircon Failure or Turbocharger overheat

If it's anything like a Vauxhall (which is probably not beyond the realms of possibility), the aircon condensor is infront of the intercooler and engine radiator. If the charge temperature is too high after the intercooler, the aircon will cut out to avoid adding extra heat to the air before it hits the intercooler. The aircon also cuts out under acceleration.

So, I'd agree with Les, and say a combination of excessive temperatures and high engine load probably caused the ECU to turn off the aircon.

Re: Aircon Failure or Turbocharger overheat

I'm from Croatia, and last 2 weeks I drove in Dubrovnik area with similar outside temperature without any problem. I set climatronic on 24 and working fine on any engine load. I have O2 2,0 tdi (2007/BKD engine) with steinbauer p-box.
Maybe you have some AC and/or ECU failure?
