Here’s one for the gurus!

Is it possible to lock an ’07 Elegance Estate without activating the alarm system?

My question is prompted by a debate on another Forum about the annoyance (and inconvenience if the battery goes flat) of car alarms going off on a long (24 hours) sea ferry crossing.

I have checked the manual and have not yet found a way of having the car locked without an activated alarm. Some models apparently have this function incorporated into the interior monitoring switch on the door pillar but mine does not.

Have I missed something obvious? Advice appreciated. Thanks.

I would be interested in the answer too. I was wondering how I can leave the interioir sensors off is we leave the dogs in the car - (new 4x4 on its way from the factory!!)

That's simple.

Small switch low down on the central door pillar - driver's side.

yes press the alarm blip twice. or just to turn of interior sensor press the button on the pillar that your seatbelt runs down (near the bottom you see a button).

Thanks for your reply and your suggestion that I RTFM.

I did say in my original post that I had checked the manual, but in view of your suggestion I revisited the relevant pages for another look. This is what I saw (both times):

Skoda refer to the normal locking status as “a Safe Securing System”
The manual states that the Safe Securing System can be de-activated by pressing the remote locking button twice within 2 seconds. In this mode the doors can be opened from inside the car.

There is more;
“Note
The anti-theft alarm system is also activated with the de-activated Safe Securing System when locking the vehicle. The interior monitor is not however activated”.

In the “Alarm” section of the manual under “When is the alarm triggered?” it states that one of the areas monitored is the “Angle of the vehicle”.

From all of that it would appear that if I am on a ship rolling and pitching in rough conditions in the Bay of Biscay then a double blip would not switch off the “Angle of the vehicle” monitor and that there is a risk that the alarm will sound. My experience from several crossings indicates that this does happen to several vehicles every time.

Some Octavia II models are equipped with a double switch on the central door pillar which controls the Interior Monitor and/or the Towing Protection Monitor (the angle monitor). Since my Elegance does not have this double switch I assume that it is only available on the L&K and perhaps the Scout versions.

So I have to repeat my original question.
Does anyone know if there is a way to de-activate the external functions alarm?

if you have the angle sensor then an extra button will be on the pillar with a picture ofthe car at an angle.

then i would devise from that watson tha you dont have the sensor. Have you tried doing the double close button and rocking the car?

odd that you dont have the switch as ive not seen one without. do they have them on the classic spec and does that have an alarm. just wondering if theyve mis-built yours slighty?

ive just takena look at the latest brochure and the classic doesnt have an alarm (only imobiliser) and i guess this would mean no switch on the pillar

The alarm when you get out and shut the door is like this:

1 one press locks the car and enables all the alarm functions that your alarm has (internal sensors, voltage drop etc)
2 presses knocks off internal sensors so you can leave windows open or kids in the car.
3. the doors are deadlocked to the best of my knowledge, but if locked with the button near the gear stick or when it gets above 15mph (available on some cars via vag com or garage) then the first pull on the handle wont open, but the second pull on the handle will.

i think what he means is the double blip doesnt turn off the tilt sensor (for the rocking of the boat) and he wants to know if this is possible. i would have thought all of teh alarmed cars would have tilt detection so they cant be dragged onto the back of a lorry?

if he doesnt have motion detection then i doubt very much that it has tilt.

bit odd on an elegance though isnt it unless its an import with an odd spec or a mis-build

ziggur, think the best thing you can do is lock car and rock it, see what heappens

leave window open, lock car and wave arms in cockpit, see what happens!

I know a guy here that ordered tilt and motion and only got one button, I dunno what the final outcome was as the garage assumed there was only one button now.

I have the Internal Motion Sensor and switch.

I do not have the Vehicle Angle switch which is shown in the manual as part of a double switch which also incorporates the Internal Motion Sensor.

My car has the towing protection alarm and has only one button on the pillar. It's a nuisance though sometimes because if you're parked on a busy street and a large truck flies by it sets the alarm off!
