| Alarming Bang from DSG Gearbox OurOcty II goes in for his second annual service on Monday. I'm going to raise a problem about (I guess) the DSG box (2.0 TDi). Three or four times when coming to a stop from a long cruise (at fairly gentle cruising speeds) there has been a great bang as the car came to a stop and the engine stalled. The first time it happened it was so severe we all thought someone had run in to the back of the car. It's also happened once when moving off froma toll booth - again after a long cruise. My guess is that the twin clutches in the DSG box have somehow got out of synch and are trying to engage simultaneously - or alternatively one is slamming in with no gradual engagement. Anyone else experienced this? Any idea what the problem might be? We've got a good local Skoda dealer (Motorline Canterbury), butI'd like to be able to give them some sort of steer to the problem. |

| Briskodian | Re: Alarming Bang from DSG Gearbox when new, mine used to be very notchy on an occasional downchange from 3rd to 2nd. It was accompanied by 'clunk' noise and a jolt in the ride. went away after a few thousand miles. |

| Re: Alarming Bang from DSG Gearbox Quote:
My (uneducated) guess is that there's an obscure fault in the DSG software. On each occasion of the bang we'd been driving for a long period at 60-70 mph and were either coming to a stop or about to leave from rest. Given that the DSG has two clutches, my sense is that it tried to change into first and second gears simultaneously - which is a no-no. Possibly a temperature-related issue? Well, I'll let fellow Briskodians know what (if anything) ensues. | |
