Anyone with a Skoda in North Herts?

Progress Skoda of Bedford are opening a second dealership in Letchworth Garden City (or simply Letchworth if you've lived around here more than a few years)

They are opening a site in the next 2 or 3 months at

Works Road
LETCHWORTH GARDEN CITY
Hertfordshire
SG6 1JU

(was a Toyota dealership, then a graphics design business called Jay-Bee)

If you own a VW and want to pay £56 an hour instead of £100 for servicing walk 2 minutes down the road from the Wayside Letchworth dealer (that'll teach em to turn me down for test-drive in a Golf GT PD170 )

Re: Anyone with a Skoda in North Herts?

The VW dealer said there would be a Skoda dealer opening soon when the Golf went in for servicing a few weeks ago but weren't sure where it would be.

Saying that the cost of getting the Golf serviced was far lower than the last two Fabias I had. £135 for the first long-life service (at around 18,200 miles) made me happy, especially after a quote of £220ish.

Re: Anyone with a Skoda in North Herts?

wrt your fabia vs golf servicing:

Are you comparing like with like?
(extended vs long-life and PD2.0 16v vs PD1.9 8v)

According to the servicing spreadsheet someone posted a few days ago for octavias:

1.4 16v EXT = £44 (oil change at 10k) £97 (=20k service) £147 (=40k service)
1.4 16v VAR = £122 or £171 (40k Full)
1.9 PD EXT = £58.88 (oil change at 10k) £112.37 (=20k service) £145.97 (=40k service)
1.9 PD VAR = £129.46 or £163.06 (40k Full)
2.0 PD EXT = £56.57 (oil change at 10k) £110.06 (=20k service) £160.46 (=40k service)
2.0 PD VAR = £125.53 or £175.93 (40k Full)

If you had the Golf serviced at 18K+ that would be the first minor (lube+filter) VAR service (1.3 hours billable labour) = £125.53 in Skoda money with parts.

Thanks - nice to know about the new dealer - this could be convenient for me for servicing and parts - are there any more details available online about the new dealer?

No details yet, they are still a few months away from opening. I was quietly told about this in January when buying a new Octavia as I live south of Letchworth. I wonder though what will happen to MKG in Stevenage though; will they be able to have enough custom, considering they do service and used car sales only at present.

As to £56 per hour I don't believe it. Progress must be on a lost leader introductory offer at this rate. Their rate for Bedford is £79.50 per hour + VAT with 10% off or slightly more on older cars for 'Privelege/Progress ' customers. Additionally, with Skoda UK's mentality to warranty etc. I can't believe that they would sanction Progress working on VWs.

Re: Anyone with a Skoda in North Herts?

I had heard about Progress opening up in Letchworth. Good news for us Hitchin dwellers. Q3/Q4 2007 is what I heard.

I'm comparing the Fabia vRS (1.9 PD 130) with a Golf (1.9 PD 105), so same basic engine in different states of tune and different ancilleries. None of the three services on the Fabia (all fixed 10,000 mile intervals) came in under £170. Perceived wisdom is VW are far more expensive but I'm more than happy with the service for the Golf (£135 ish) and the level of service received which was far better than the Cambs based dealer I used for the Fabia.
