| This morning I went out to my Octavia to find the brake lights on, car locked up, nobody in. Unlocked it, fired the engine up and pumped the brake pedal which got rid of the brake lights. Engine off, locked up and no brake lights. Anybody come across this fault before? I really can't be bothered to go to the dealers today on my day off but don't want a flat battery if they should happen to come on again in the middle of the night!

| Brake light switch on the pedal may either be fubar or out of adjustment.

| But even if there was a brick on the pedal it still shouldn't light the bulbs when the engine isn't running

| I think a dealer visit is enevitable, you can't take risks with safety equipment such as brake lights.

| This is a common problem on a5 platform cars. It causes battery to go dead too. Go to your dealer. |

| It was the brake light switch that did this on my Fabia. The new purple one is OK. |

| This is a known fault - bad batch of BL switches. Should be replaced under warantee.
