Campaign 26E6 - recall?

I've just received a letter from my dealer (Rainworth Skoda) with regard to my MY2008 Octavia VRS TDI.

It's about an outstanding product enhancement that will be made FOC, the code is 'campaign 26E6'. Is this a recall? Anyone know what it is?

Re: Campaign 26E6 - recall?

No it's not a recall.

Dealers are not so busy at the moment so they are going through their customer base checking for these updates to give them some work.

Re: Campaign 26E6 - recall?

I really don't think it's a recall, people seem to use the term a little to light heartedly.

It would be here if it was - VOSA - Vehicle Recalls

Re: Campaign 26E6 - recall?

My dealer just told me it is a recall which they would normally do when the car is serviced. As mine won't be serviced for a good while they've told me I can have it done while I wait. Seems it's to do with the language on the display which has been known to revert to German - well that's what I was told. Why it wouldn't be Czech I don't know. There's also a check on the pressure sensor as already mentioned by derbyjon

Re: Campaign 26E6 - recall?

Arrrrghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh - I give up!!!!

If it's a recall that means take the car to the garage, do not pass go, do not stop for a maccy D's on the way just get it to the dealer - It's important.

These kind of situations are reserved for situations which could be deemed as dangerous, such as the car may catch fire or the brakes may fail. Serious things.

If it is something that is done during a routine workshop visit then it is just an in service repair or upgrade.

Well I'm happy to accept that as a definition. I only posted the words my dealer used. Mine's going in next week anyway. I was told not to wait for the service as mine's on variable

Re: Campaign 26E6 - recall?

As I said above, because business is slow the dealers are rifling through their customer lists and dragging work in rather than waiting for the next service. They will then get paid by Skoda for carrying out the work.

Re: Campaign 26E6 - recall?

In fact the definition is here -

Voluntary Recall System

Quote:
Recall campaigns are launched and monitored as agreed in the various voluntary Codes of Practice formulated from discussions between the Department for Transport and representative bodies of the Motor Industry. These codes set out the guidelines on procedures for the recall of vehicles and components that have safety related defects, due to a feature of design or construction, and which are liable to cause significant risk of injury to the driver, occupants of the vehicle or other road users.

Re: Campaign 26E6 - recall?

Don't see how being so pedantic helps. It's a job that needs to be done. What you call it seems immaterial - it must originate from Skoda I guess. I'm just glad I found out about it on this site since my dealer, at least, hadn't notified me. I had to call him as a result of the postings here. Glad I did.

Re: Campaign 26E6 - recall?

I'm being pedantic as you put it because I am fed up with people starting threads shouting Recall or saying that these things are a Recall when they clearly aren't.

If you serch the term Recall you will probably find quite a few threads which clearly don't involve a Recall. When you understand what the term Recall really means then you should understand that it is serious and not to be taken lightly.

Now I also understand that dealers misuse the term and that is again a situation which should be addressed.

Exactly, as its not a serious safety issue there is no customer notification. It will flag up when you bring your car into a dealer. If you issue is with a language problem then its not the above campaign as thats the engine ECU and DPF pressure sensor.

Fair enough. As I said, I have no problem with the definition you give. It was my first post here and I was just putting in my two pence worth to try to shed some light for the benefit of others. Didn't intend to ruffle feathers.

Re: Campaign 26E6 - recall?

Lummox, how does that sit with what I was told? I actually don't have any problem with my car but wanted to find out about Campaign 26E6. My dealer definitely told me it was a flash to the ECU and it concerned a problem with the dash language reverting to German. Is it your view that we're talking about two separate things? If so, what exactly do you think Campaign 26E6 is all about? It would be interesting to know if anyone has had the language problem mentioned

Re: Campaign 26E6 - recall?

Could well be two issues tied into the same campaign then, not uncommon.

Do you have the Nexus(MFD2) Sat Nav? There was a bulleten issued in 2006 which was to fix spontaneous switching of the language.

I hear the words ECU flash and a cold shiver goes down my spine.

I do hope it is for the devils fuel and not the TFSI.

Re: Campaign 26E6 - recall?

It's just the DPF, had mine done yesterday, nothing to worry about...

It literally came through on the system as they had managed to fix an electrical fault on my car after having the car for 14 days (plus 3 days before that) So 17 in total..........

Just to clarify that this indeed is not a recall,
