Ordered the car though Buyacar.co.uk (Occy Vrs Tdi) 7 weeks ago

Just had a call from the dealership that they ordered it though to say it arrived this morning and would be ready on Tuesday after the pdi.

All excited, i phoned buyacar as the dealer was not sure if i pay him or buyacar. Buyacar were surprised that the dealer phoned me direct and said that they normally buy the car from the dealer and then sell to customer.

Has anyone else ordered from buyacar? Dont want to wait any longer than necessary (as you can imagine)

Dont care who i pay, just give me it for Tuesday

I would imagine you pay the broker. That'll be who your contract is with.

The buyacar.co.uk seems quite clear - you have to pay them in full before they will deliver the car to you (either to your house, or you collect from their offices).

So, if the car is "ready" from the dealer on Tuesday, I can see it being somewhere between 1 and 10 days before you get the car. The biggest delay could easily be the time your payment takes to get to them...

Tis true.

Basically, they hold onto the V50 for 6 months to stop you selling it on. They buy the car from the dealer and then we pay buyacar. Adds some days though. Hopefully by the end of the week.

This 'holding on to the V5 for 60 days' will be because the car isn't registered to you.

They have obviously registered it to some business and falsely claimed fleet support from Skoda.

How will you get notified now if there is some urgent recall on the car?

How will you get any warranty work undertaken if you do have a problem?

I'd not be happy with that 60 day issue if I were you. If you've paid for the car then surely you're entitled to have the correct documentation.

There could also be legal issues re ownership and insuring a vehicle with someone elses name on the docs. There was a similar problem reported in Auto Express last year when someone had bought a Transit through a broker and the docs did not match up with the new keeper.

Well if the car is registered to them.... got and get as many parking tickets as possible ;-) I don't think they can legally hold onto the V50 at all.

if you own the car then there is no way they can hold onto the V5 and even if they did just call the DVLA and order a new one

to insure a car it has to be in your name, no way around this. if they are holding onto it but its your name just get a new one and tell them

The discounts we are able to offer you are achieved through volume sales. We achieve these discounts by first registering the car into the name of our suppliers who hold discount terms with the manufacturer. This means that you will receive a brand new car on the latest registration and with the full 3 year warranty but you will be the 2nd registered keeper.

Also, under the discount terms through which we will purchase your new car, the V5 Registration Certificate will be retained for a period of 26 weeks. The reason for this is simply that the manufacturer does not want these heavily discounted cars being sold to businesses that will look to resell them immediately and thus undermine their dealer network. Retaining the log book for 26 weeks is their way of ensuring that the cars are only sold to end users. In the mean time you will have the bill of sale from Buyacar which is your proof of purchase and your V5 will be automatically forwarded on to you. I would like to stress that this purely an administrative process and will not affect your enjoyment of your new car in any way.

The word 'enjoyment' bothers me a bit. I would use enjoyment to refer to the driving experience and being proud of you fantastic purchase.....you know....looking out of the window to stare at it when you first get it etc. To use this word in the context it is being used seems to be inappropriate......it could just be me reading too much into their lexical choice, sorry if it is.
But yeah, I'd ask for a photocopy, a good idea.

I'd run a mile from a deal like that. There's more than enough discounts available on brand new,you're the 1st registered owner cars without getting involved in strange deals.

When is the car actually transferred into your name - now or in 26 weeks time? If it's 26 weeks time and they are setting up some sort of no cost hire deal for the 26 weeks I'd be suspecting a VAT fraud.

This whole process sounds very strange, isn't one of the questions asked by your insurance company "Is the car registered in your name?".

It may be the wording but it looks like the car broker is actually the registered keeper initially, who is the car registered to in the first 26 weeks?

again, you cannot insure a car that isn't registered in your name. simple.

so if they are registering the car in their name then you cannot insure it as its illegal, this sounds very dodgy to me. if its registered in their name but you have paid for it then they can legally sell it on and not give you a penny as its not your car.

Skoda would be far from happy if they got wind of this.

Dodgy deals go on all the time.

In order to secure a huge discount on one car I agreed to take Black Horse Finance at a ridiculous 36% APR, even though I had a loan from Alliance and Leicester at 5.9%,so the dealer could get his commission. I agreed to make the first payment and then went in to see the finance manager who cleared the finance. I then paid with my Alliance and Leicester funds the price agreed on the car minus the first Black Horse payment.

V dodgy but it worked, can't imagine black horse were too happy though.

deal is done and we have paid buyacar. this is the second car we have bought from them. ill have to find out what happened with the other one. Our insurance is a fleet one and covers any car owned by us or loaned to us.

Delivery is on Thursday.

This is a really interesting issue, as there is no legal obligation for the owner of a vehicle to be the registered keeper as far as the DVLA are concerned.

It is, however, the responsibility of the registered keeper to tax the vehicle, and therefore DVLA suggest that the person shown as the registered keeper be the main user of the vehicle. Presumably, this means that your broker would be the person legally responsible for taxing the car? They would also get any NIPs, should you be caught by a speed camera etc.

As long as you have proof that you've purchased the car (e.g. a receipt acknowledging payment for the vehicle), then I don't think the registered keeper being the broker matters from an ownership standpoint.

It's all a bit of a grey area, though.

What a car. Driving in convoy with my friends Mondeo ST, it was very difficult to not overtake him all the time

Pitty its lashing it down, I will hope to get some pic of it tomorrow if the rain has stopped. Happy days

Oh, and the car was registered on our name. Buyacar are holding onto the document but at least we are the first owners
