| Could someone please let me know if there was a recall with regards the clutch or flywheel on the MK2 1.9 tdi pd octavia clasic 55 reg or before that date. I managed to get the estate version last week with 64k for £4,800, then had it serviced for piece of mind, at a skoda dealer in Plymouth £600 (ouch) The reason I am asking is the dealer said that the flywheel or the clutch is catching and is making a clicking sound when idling, but it drives well and its bloody marvelous on fuel 657 miles from 3/4s of a tank indicated, I will have to get the indicator stalk for cruse control, and wiper one from a scrappy with the read out buttons so I can actually see what its doing, thats if they can be swapped over and programed |

| Only way to be sure is to ask a dealer if your car has any outstanding recall or TSB work and supply them with your VIN number.

| Thanks for the reply, but would you know if there where any recalls for anything with this model, as a dealer could say no so they can charge you for it, at 64k it is just out of warranty |

| You can check on the VOSA website but it appears there weren't any. VOSA - Vehicle Recalls There was a dual mass flywheel (DMF) recall on the Octy II but that only applied to the 2.0 TDI (140HP)

| Like I said just phone and ask the dealer, if they say no go around and get a second opinion at a garage you trust and then see if the dealer will match or come close to that price. I would suggest that a ticking noise at idle is down to a failing part on the clutch. This can be done for under £300 at an indy and if you are told you need a new dual mass flywheel a single mass flywheel conversion kit is available aftermarket from a few manufacturers now, which is more reliable than a DMF, although a bit noisier. I assume at £600 your service included a cambelt change?

| I assume at £600 your service included a cambelt change?No just a full service oil filters, pollen filter, BP front and back and a CV boot, A cam belt and tensioner change was shown on there price board at from £530. It was carried out at IML Plymouth |

| £600 for a service (£200ish at dealer rates and should include the pollen filter anyway), A full sot of brake pads all around (£200 fitted max at dealer full rates) and a CV boot. Sounds like they stung you hard and I'd keep well well away from them for any future work. Do you have other local dealers or VAG specialist in your area? Christ at that price it would be cost effective to drive up to JKM in portsmouth, get the work done and drive it back home. Is your car 4 years old yet or done over 60k? If it is and they sold the car with a full manufacturers service history then the cambelt and tensioners should have been changed. If they have not I'd be asking some very serious questions of that dealer.

| I live in Scotland and found the octy on the auto trader site advertised for 7k from a Renault dealer in keel, I swapped them over on the way down for a 2 week holiday, I asked the ren dealer to make sure it was fully serviced and asked for the belt and tension-er to be changed, but he said that it was not due until 80k, Skoda confirmed that all that is required at 60k is an inspection. After I had driven it for 2 days the BP warning light came on so i knew that the pads where low. so decided to get it properly serviced as it will soon become a taxi. (safety first) I have contacted the Ren dealer and he said I could have my Kia back and that he would not reimburse me for the job he should have done in the first place, I really like the octy, so he wont be getting it back, but I may have to go through the small claims court, in fact i may even contact skoda and ask them for a partial refund of the service cost as it is OTT |

Regarding the cambelt I'd get that done early if you're going to be a taxi and get the waterpump done at the same time. It's £25 on exchange but the whole belt needs to come off to do it so you may as well. I assume Mr Taxi 219 thinks that £600 is steep too ![]() I saw that 405 taxi out tonight on the way home and can you imagine the cost of that if every major service @20k was £600 ![]()
