Question Dashboard lights

Swithed on the dash lights for the first time on my 05 octy.
Have to say I was a bit disapointed by the boaring green light
setup. I was expecting the red & blue like the usual VW dash.
Has anyone heard of the light colour being changed and how
hard was it.

Re: dashboard lights

I like the green light TBH, the plue/purple affair isn't too good on the eyes on long drives.

Thats only my personal opinion before anyones starts a:

Re: dashboard lights

There is a DIY guide here for the 'old' Octavia but unfortunately the photos have gone missing during recent major changes affecting Briskoda.

I agree. Blue is very harsh on the eyes (as is red to an extent) especially over long periods. Blue characters on a black background are one of the most difficult things for the brain to interpret hence it's tiring to look at whereas green on a black background is the easiest for the brain to interpret.

Thats why most cars use green dash lighting. Anyone remember computer monitors before full colour was available? Thats right, green text on a black background.

Re: Dashboard lights

Last time I hired a golf, I had to put a duster over the instrument panel at night (even with the illumination turned down) as I found it impossible to look at even out of the corner of my eye!

But SKODA have always mentioned in their brochurs that the dashboard lighting is green.

And a very good one at that. I always wanted the same thing, but think I'll stick with the green too.

Re: Dashboard lights

Once you've driven it in the dark i think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

The illumination in the Octavia is very very good.

I agree, its very easy on the eye although every button is illuminated so for me it felt a bit 'star trek enterprise' for a minute but i'm used to it now.

Thats what I like most .

A SAAB-esque "night panel" mode would be a good idea.

Either that or loads of black insulating tape.
