Dealer got order wrong - but "blaming me"

Here we go, what should I do.......

Took a test drive etc and decided to order a 140 dsg, I went to america on holiday but placed the order by phone and paid a deposit. Get back from America and there's no paperwork from the dealer (such as an order form for me to sign).

Fly straight out to work in guernsey and get back last night to a letter saying "thank you for your order of a 105 dsg", so I ring my dealer who says, no at the price quoted, it's always been a 1.9 not a 2.0, I say I am 100 % certain it is a 140 that I ordered, I have insured a 140 using the supplied reg number. The salesman looks back through his paperwork and says that the order was definately put through as a pd105 and he has my order. At this point I say I have not signed the order because it was not posted to me to sign and if I had received the order for a 105 I would have brought it up straight away.

Now the dealer is unhappy and is trying to look for another car, the only reason they are doing this is that they don't have my signature on an order, but there is a little pressure to take the 105 as they have registered it in my name.

I bet the dealer principle is going to be unhappy when he finds he has a 105 dsg pre reg in stock now, not to mention the fact that all my additions to the vRS are supposed to be coming off tomorrow so I could take delivery of a new car on Friday.

Sometimes things just don't go as planned, how much difference is there between a 105 and 140 (apart from 35 bhp) if they were to do some kind of amazing offer to try to convince me to take the car, as it is fully loaded.......

Fluff''''''
Slightly miffed.....

Don't do it.
The 2.0 is a much better choice , and you'll miss sixth gear

Tough luck! You ordered a 140 and that's what you should get! It was their mistake they didn't get you to check and sign the paperwork, so they don't have a leg to stand on in my opinion.

Re: Dealer got order wrong - but "blaming me"

The words I would use in your situation are "Not My Problem"

The 1.9 PD105 IMHO is not a patch on the 2.0 PD140 as the 2.0 is much quieter on the motorways and has a 6th gear.

Re: Dealer got order wrong - but "blaming me"

Do you have anything (signed or otherwise) that has 140 DSG written down? I still reckon the dealers don't have a leg to stand on, but if they won't budge, you could reject the car as not as described under the Sale of Goods Act...

Re: Dealer got order wrong - but "blaming me"

I agree - I dont have experience of the two engines you mention, but that's not the point. Don't be tempted to settle for something you didn't order, otherwise it will weigh on your mind all the time you drive the one you didn't really want

When i was looking for a used one, my dealer tried to talk me into one without some of the spec options i really wanted (maxidot, cruise control etc.), just because it was sitting on their forecourt ready to go. Having just had an excellent test drive, i nearly gave in. Now I'm SO glad I waited to find what I originally wanted.

Re: Dealer got order wrong - but "blaming me"

Go for the one you ordered.

If you don't you will probably always have that nagging feeling!

If you haven't signed anything the dealer is stuck, as it is their fault do not feel pressurised into feeling guilty or obliged!

Good point ,but even so it's a lower spec engine with a huge price difference and not something I'd accept

Re: Dealer got order wrong - but "blaming me"

Presumably they won't offer as attractive a deal on the 2.0 TDI though as they quoted for the 1.9 so you may be left having to cough up the difference to change?

Guess it depends how desperate you are to change....

Re: Dealer got order wrong - but "blaming me"

i'd ask them if they remember the test drive you had. they should have records kept about what and when was test driven. that will prove you drove a 140, so ask them why you would order a 105 after driving a 140??

as above its their problem not yours. but the only thing is if you have nothing to prove the price offered and they have quoted a 105 price to you then expect them to increase the price to the correct one.

ive got the basic retail price for a ambiente as 15740 for the 1.9 and 17205 for the 2.0.

Re: Dealer got order wrong - but "blaming me"

I have had both the 1.9 DSG and the 2.0 DSG and by far the 2.0 DSG 140 is the best DONTsettle for anything less. unless a good deal a very good deal can be had.

Re: Dealer got order wrong - but "blaming me"

Now after a morning in the dealer, we have a resolution. I am getting a PD140 DSG, and they have met me 1/2 way in bridging the price difference between a 105 and 140. They did soooooooooooooooooooo want me to take the 105, but it's not what I ordered so I politely, but firmly stuck to my guns. If the Admin team at the dealers were doing their job, I would have received the order to sign and would have flagged it up straight away. I would now assume that someone is going to get a huge kick up the **** from the dealer principle. I must add that they were extremley polite, but there was a certain amount of pressure to take the 105. I drove the 105 and it really was like putting my foot into a bowl of custard when pressing the accelerator, the pd 140 is so much better.

I am of the opinion though that if they were really trying to push the 105 until I drew a line under that conversation, it's amazing that no PD140 DSG's existed on the stock lists or dealer networks, until I made my point, then one with the right spec popped up as if by magic.

All in all a result, but I was astounded by the insistance at first that I had it wrong

Prices are correct, they have met me half way on the increased price by allowing me substantial amount more for my p/x

The insurance cover note they got for the car was for a 2.0 PD140 DSG, all sorted now though......

I'd have almost been tempted to take my business elsewhere, they have blatently tried to decieve you regarding available stocks, and they have not really produced the goods on price.

Each to their own Ray, I am dropping from a slightly tweaked 2.0TFSi and the 2.0PD does not feel to far off the mark from lower down the range, unfortunately, to me the 1.9 felt breathless.

For me, the cash would only go as far as a 1.9 estate or 2.0 hatch. So my good lady and the dog won. I'm so pleased to have the DSG, its outstanding.

I’m well pleased with the car.

Hmmmmm custard

It's all down to personal choice really.
I'd have gone for a 2.0 manual estate rather than the 1.9 DSG , but it's what you fancy on the day that gets your money
