Do your wings, Bonnet & lights line up? Pics Added

Had my 14 week old octy returned from a certain Leeds Skoda dealer after crash repair damage and the front does not line up. The bonnet (which is a new one) is 8mm out from the wing.

Bodyshop manager says he checked this personally. They have arranged to take my car back in but just wondering if I am being too demanding (as the bodyshop have implied)

Pics updated.

Right hand side: this is OK

Left hand side that doesn't line up

Front grill - same on both sides

I think you have every right to expect that the work done is to your satisfaction, however you should have picked this up when you collected your car. Did you sign for the work after you inspected it?

They dropped it off when my wife was at home - she spotted it but could not check it properly with a baby and a toddler and signed paperwork "unchecked". Part of their accident management services is to collect and deliver the vehicle.
Oh and the lower grill hasn't been fitted properly either you can see the joins.

Re: Do your wings, Bonnet & lights line up?

If you are using an approved repairer, the car should com out as it would have been before the accident. Have a look at another car and compare take pics if need be to compare. I had to send my car back twice even then there were problems but i couldn't be bothered to send it back.

Re: Do your wings, Bonnet & lights line up?

I'd certainly reject it and demand they rectify it at once.An 8mm panel gap is totally unacceptable, so is an ill-fitting lower grille.
If you get fobbed off, take photos of it and threaten the Dealer with Trading Standards and Skoda UK.That should get some results.

My nearside light unit doesn't sit flush with the wing. Never has.

Re: Do your wings, Bonnet & lights line up?

Would be interested to see pics of this as I had a similar experience when a new wing was fitted!

The front did not meets the lights in the same way and although the bodyshop spent a couple of hours realigning it the best they could it still aint perfect but within 'tollerances'!

Re: Do your wings, Bonnet & lights line up?

I had a new wing on my 6 month old Octy a few weeks ago. I'm pretty fussy, and I honestly can't tell that it's been replaced. It is possible to get a decent repair, so don't be fobbed-off.

I have suffered similar issues at the hands of bodyshops.

They rely on the fact that most people won't notice or won't care too much.

That is clearly a bad job and if I could offer one bit of advice to the bodyshop manager, it would be to find a new job.

Unreal!

Re: Do your wings, Bonnet & lights line up?

Glad you agree - Not what I expected from a Skoda bodyshop.
I've had a moan about the extra mileage as well as it is being picked up on Monday and then returned back.

Re: Do your wings, Bonnet & lights line up?

Hi

The repair looks a bit shoddy to me. My BMW was damaged in the high winds a couple of years ago but you can't tell from the repair. Having said that, my wife's Mini was almost written off by a minibus and we rejected it about 6 times! The first time we went to collect it I noticed a 10pence sized dent in the front wing. Things went down hill from there! Needless to say we P/Exed it soon after, the buying dealer commenting on how few stone chips it had in 43K miles!

Persist until you are 100% satisfied!

Re: Do your wings, Bonnet & lights line up?

We had a megane that went back to a "direct line approved" garage 3 times
a few years ago. I thought this time I would insist on a Skoda bodyshop.

When got my new Octy (I'm 1st owner), I didn't like main beams position as they were with gaps and one was 1 cm out of the bumper. I've done the job myself and it was very easy.
Here I've posted step to step how to do it:

http://briskoda.net/forums/octavia-i...-tricks/55750/
post number 8.

I repeat, it's easy. Took me 20min to get it perfect. Don't forget to go to adjust focus after adjusting your beams.

Yes it is the bodyshop at the Skoda main dealer in Leeds...

So here's a quick tip. NEVER take your car there.

With the bigger pictures, it looks even worse. See, the problem is, when I had part of my car resprayed due to some clown at Wings being a bit slap dash with a drill, the approved bodyshop told me that insurance jobs mean they get a damn site less money than a private customer paying cash.

Maybe that tells us something. Doesn't mean its right though.

Re: Do your wings, Bonnet & lights line up?

My Octy got picked up today, got returned this afternoon and its gone back to Leeds AGAIN and I drove home in their courtesy car.

The bonnet/wing is now OK but there is a massive gap above the left headlamp and the front grill hadn't been done at all.

I was none too impressed so rang one of the directors. Mr Keith called me back after half an hour so I explained the problems. He said he would look into it and call me back. He did!

Apparently the bodyshop manager is on holiday. He has looked at a few other Octys and then compared it to the work done on mine and is going to make sure that its done properly. He apologised and said that he would call me again tomorrow.

But the car has now had two unnecessary trips to Leeds so...

Re: Do your wings, Bonnet & lights line up?

At least they are acknowledging that their workmanship isn't quite up to scratch, and they are willing to have a look at it again. I can think of worse cities to troll around, whilst waiting tho'! Leeds is quite interesting, nice parish church and a damn good choir! (organist hat on!)
