DSG in sport mode...wow!

Thought I'd try sport mode on the DSG for the first time today. Front of the queue at the lights so ideal time. Until two motorbikes come up, one either side of me and sit on my front wings. Oh well, they will speed off out of my way I thought.....

Lights go green.....

Both bikes are off and I'll give it to one of them, he was away.....

The second one looked a bit nervous when he realised he couldn't shake me off...

God I love that sport mode

OK he wasn't on a big bike, but it wasn't a moped either. I will have to ration myself to once a week though otherwise I'll become addicted!

Re: DSG in sport mode...wow!

I find Sport mode is useful (assuming you are not in a manual kind of mood!) for cross-country sprints. If you are just going flat out in a straight line, the normal Drive mode changes gear at the same point as Sport mode. The advantage I find with Sport, is it changes down a gear lower on average, so you get more engine braking. After all, there isn’t too much point ringing the neck of a Diesel as it runs out of puff after 4,000revs…………obviously I am not talking about all the tweaked TDis out there.

Re: DSG in sport mode...wow!

I find in D it changes up sooner where as in S it holds on that bit longer to give a bit more shove.

Unless it was all in my mind and having it in S just meant I stamped on the gas a bit more because I wanted a quicker get away....

I agree with you though, no point revving up to 5k rpm in each gear!

Re: DSG in sport mode...wow!

In Drive, my 140 TDi changes up at the red line (about 4.5K or so?) as it also does in Sport. A.f.a.i.k. it doesn’t matter which mode you are in, as long as you press the pedal to the kickdown point. It definitely changes down earlier when lifting off though. the car also kicks down in manual mode too and will change up when it hits the red line. I think this is why rolling roading DSG cars was a bit tricky at first.
