engine emissions warning light

The above light came on today.

When having my air bag fault mended via some rewiring bulletin the codes were checked and came up with a sporadic fault re sensor problem in the exhaust which I was told might bring up the engine control light. A new sensor was ordered about a week ago but as yet I have not heard that it has been obtained.

The car handbook indicates the car can continue to be driven gently as the engine goes onto some sort of alternative management cycle.

As I am going to have to wait until the part comes in presumably it will be ok to continue to drive the car?

This will be the third time in 7 months (under 4000 miles) since new that the car has had to go back to the dealers so I am not too impressed with reliability so far.

Re: engine emissions warning light

The car's engine-management system is coupled to a transmitter connected to the DVLA. If you drive the car in "dirty" or "alternative-management" mode your bank account will be automatically debited Euro 125 for every kilometer you drive. Sorry, another bad - but possible - dream.

Re: engine emissions warning light

Hi, im also unimpressed. Been going back and forth since June (car brand new in April) to sort engine management and exhaust emission warning lights. Am now waiting for new ECU. I was told it was Ok to drive, but didnt feel that safe with such a lack of power.

What engine we are talking about here? 2.0 TDI or 1.9 TDI?

Re: engine emissions warning light

1.6fsi petrol engine - L&K model

fortunately I go to work by bus and only use my car at weekends or if I need to go somewhere in the week.

However I don't recall having to take my car back frequently to the dealer on other cars owned from new eg Ford, Vauxhall so for a car that was meant to be what car of the year this episode of events is beginning to get annoying to say the least.

Unfortunately, there'll alway be duff cars, whatever the make. JD Power and the like can tell you is that you're less likely to get a problem with car a over car b and how well you are likely to be treated should a fault occur. There's no guarantees.

Bad luck

Re: engine emissions warning light

I had this problem twice on my Mk 4 Golf V5 and on both occasions had new lamba probes fitted - located at the front section of the exhaust.
