Re: Extremely bad MPG for 2.0tdi

I checked mine on the second trip tonight, over the last 1600 miles I have averaged 42.8.

It's done 6k miles now since the end of september and was run in hard and is driven fairly hard on a mix of A roads and when I have to, motorways.

Re: Extremely bad MPG for 2.0tdi

I thought my mine was low at 46Mpg. recently switched over to the Lts/100km and I can get easyly down to 5.1 and on a different route home then it goes up to 6.2. still happy out. my old PD150 golf was excellent, nearly always got 51mpg.

Re: Extremely bad MPG for 2.0tdi

I have the 2.0 tdi DSG , now on 11000 miles. Intially on computer 44.6mpg for first few months, then edged up to 46.6 after 6 thousand miles or so, more recently down again to 44.6 approx as colder starts and more gizzmos on this weather.

Re: Extremely bad MPG for 2.0tdi

Our Scout has just passed the 1000 mile mark and is already showing an increase in the mpg even on shorter journeys. We regularly get 40+mpg indictaed and the average is sitting at around 37mpg so far, that's with 4wd drag....

Diesel fuel, approximately, contains 25% more calorific value than petrol (mostly due to the 'oily proportion).

Check and rectify everything (if necess) every previous poster has said - and then deduct 25% or more and you'll see what you'd be getting if you'd bought a petrol.

Re: Extremely bad MPG for 2.0tdi

I agree with anonymouse, before the octy I ran a 2.0 petrol mondeo which has roughly the same size fuel tank. With the petrol mondeo I was filling up once a week, with the 2.0TDi octy I now fill up nearly every 2 weeks (approx 12 days instead of 7). So my monthly fuel bill has almost halved, yes petrol is cheaper but Diesel will take you a lot further if the car is running properly, which more than makes up for the increased price.

Re: Extremely bad MPG for 2.0tdi

When i look at the other forum members get from their Octavia's in mpg are you reading from your computor or keeping a log which is more accurate.I average 42 mpg over 23000 miles which includes towing /town work and the occasional 160 mile motorway run to see the children.Never had my foot to the floor even when on the autobahn.

Re: Extremely bad MPG for 2.0tdi

I've had my 2.0 tdi since May and have covered almost 10,000 miles. I mostly track my MPG from the OBC and it normally indicates between 45 - 50 MPG. On short journeys to the office in this cold weather (2 miles) I just about get 40 MPG. Leaving the car idling on the drive for 10 minutes defrosting kills the MPG - it takes a long run to recuprate the "lost" MPG. I have calculated the MPG using the brim to brim method a couple of times and found that OBC in my case to be fairly accurate.

I do drive with a fairly light right foot but also tend to overtake a fair bit. The best I have had to date has been about 54 MPG.

I would definitely recommend you calculate the MPG using the brim to brim method in case the OBC is faulty.

A Merry Christmas to one and all!

Re: Extremely bad MPG for 2.0tdi

Had my 2.0TDi (55 Plate Jan 06 )for just over a year now and done almost 6K miles of the cars 9K.
Fill to brim ever time and check MPG.
Have had MPG's of:-
38 Dec
37 Jan
37 Feb
35 Mar
38 Apr
34 May
34 Jul
38 Aug
45 Aug - 400 mile journey.
41 Aug
37 Sep
35 Oct
35 Nov
35 Dec
Giving an overall average of 37.69

I mostly drive with a slightly heavy right foot and most of my journeys are only 7 miles to work.

My last car was an 130BHP Seat Ibiza Diesel and the total average MPG for that was 42.
Previous to that I had a Seat Leon 20V Cupra ( Petrol ) which gave a total average MPG of 25 !!!

Re: Extremely bad MPG for 2.0tdi

Please try driving so that you shifting up a gear when the revs hit 2000rpm, not faster then 75mph and using the cruise control as much as posible.

This has given me an overall mpg of 47 on my 2,0TDI

and please remember your 18" wheels dosn´t helps the mpg´s!

when I fit my 17" wheels insteed of my 15" winter wheels I loses app. 5 mpg´s

Re: Extremely bad MPG for 2.0tdi

Wot swamp says.

Notice a big increase in mpg by doing that.

Seems as soon as you put it over 2500 revs it drinks the diesel.

Re: Extremely bad MPG for 2.0tdi

Noticed on a recent ski run to the Alps that at 85mph I got around 42mpg, at 100mph I got around 39mpg and at 120 I got around 37mpg. This was over large sections of a 650mile run.

Today I got an indicated 47+mpg in 50mph flowing traffic on the M25 from Slough (M4 J6) to M25 J10.

Average consumption on the OBC is 38mpg.

Overall, the fuel consumption may not be as good as the 1.9tdi Octy II we had while our old Nissan was in for repair (the reason we changed to a Skoda) but the car feels much more solid and the 4x4 does sap the mpg a little.

Regards

Re: Extremely bad MPG for 2.0tdi

I used to get around 43-46mpg in my DSG 2.0TDi Octy. Currently with my new car (it weighs about the same as the Octy and has a 2.0TDi engine) I get around 42mpg on motorways.

Of course the trip computer tends to over estimate the mpg slightly in both cases.
