Question Front pads

Just clocked up 25,000 in my 2006 Octavia II, and had to have a full set of boots on (Michelin Premicy Pilots £260 fitted). While the tyres were off I had a look at the front pads and noticed there was at least half left on them and the rears were like new. can anyone else tell me how many miles I can expect to get from the original skoda parts?

Re: Front pads

Is this not just a case of simple maths? At least half left, 25k covered already, so reasonable to expect 50k...

Is this normal for a set of pads?

Re: Front pads

Yep, the pads last longer than a typical ice age on these cars.

Mine has done 23,500 miles and there is loads of meat on the pads despite carrying loads of weight all the time and using the brakes to their maximum potential on regular occasions

Re: Front pads

I used to hammer brake pads until I got behind the wheel of a Skoda, wore out the pads and discs on my Mk.I Octavia but it took 70,000 miles to do it.

Re: Front pads

My car was recently serviced at just over 70,000 miles and the bloke behind the counter told me that my pads were down to 30% left. "They should be OK for another couple of thousand miles but then they will need doing", he said. I explained basic maths to him that if I have used 70% of the pad in 70,000 miles, surely it should last a bit longer, upto 30,000 miles more perhaps. He quickly moved on to the next point.
It would seem that they last a long time but my previous cars have never lasted this well, whilst doing similar driving with a full boot at all times.

Re: Front pads

My MK1 octy had 75000 miles when I traded it in the pads were about 4mm thick and the discs were OK.

Re: Front pads

My front pads were replaced at 20,000 service and rears at 30,000 service.

Re: Front pads

I am also referring to my old Mk1 PD130 which had bigger brakes than the PD100/110 TDI.

Re: Front pads

No wonder the brakes do not feel as strong as they might on my vRS if the pads last as long as they look like they do.
