Question Fuel

I have ordered a new Octavia VRS today and I was told that we should put high octane petrol into the car. Would it damage the performance of the car - or diminish its performance - if we put ordinary unleaded into it?

VAG i believe do recommend using theee super unleaded 98ron jungle juice for all FSI petrol engines so yeah although a few pence more per litre the engine should be more efficient

Mine is only a 2.0 FSI but the official line on that in my book, and fuel flap, is that 97 is recommended, but 95 is okay. Says expect slightly less power on 95. Apparently you get slightly better mpg on 97 so it could balance out the extra cost a bit. Mine definitely feels a little zippier on 97 though I don't know if it is enough to be measurable.

I've just bought a VRS estate - Handbook says 98, but 95 is ok but the performance may be slighty affected! Only just got the car and I will try a full tank of each and see which is best, in my opinion.

"Engines which need plus petrol of 98 RON can also be run on unleaded regular petrol of 95 RON. Thi sdoes, however, result in a slight loss in performance" Page 242 owners manual.

You may be interested in this thread which covers the topic fairly conclusively,

Bear in mind the difference between the FSI and the FSI Turbo. The former probably copes quite happily with 95 RON but the Turbo will perform at its best with 97/98 RON.

I cant seem to link to the above thread! It says contact administrator!

My worry is concerns regarding premature coking of Audi FSI engines that has been previously documented. I' ve only very rarely kept a car over a year but Im determined to keep this Octy VRs for 5 years!! I've done 3000 miles so far on a mixture of 95 and 97/98 octane fuel and have seen no noticeable difference in performance or fuel economy, only cost!! Given that the manual says 95 octane is safe to use who will pay for any rectifcation required after the warrenty expires, given it 'll have been fully serviced and of low milage??
