Help - Misting up & it's getting worse !

Guys, I've had problems with the windows in my nine month old Octavia VRS fogging up continually since I got the car a month ago, but it's getting much worse & driving me nuts ! I've tried all the different heater/aircon settings without success. I've checked the drain holes in the doors are clear, I can't find any wet patches in the carpets or the boot but I did spot the rubber trim along the sills get wet? I did once have a similar problem in a 1978 Fiesta, but it did have a hole in the boot !!! I haven't had anything like this for years !

Anyway, it's now at the stage where I can't drive off when I get in the car (or have to stop shortly after), the back window takes ages to clear & the rears are almost clear by the time I get home.

Any idea's...I've trawled thro' all the threads on this site to do with this problem but still don't know the actual answer. So I've booked it into the dealer to get it looked at.

This'll be it's third trip back there for a 'repair' in the month I've had it - inop cruise on delivery, wheel centre missing & now this.

Should I get them to look at the occasionally noisy power steering while it's in, or is that 'normal' too ? It's like a 'thrumming' noise ?

First thing I would check is whether the recirc flap is stuck shut, if it is then no fresh air will be getting in at all which will steam the car right up.

I know you say you have checked all aircon settings but I want to be sure you have had the A/C compressor running as it should demist the windows in seconds. The ECON light being off will achieve this.

Have a look and make sure the spare wheel well is dry too.

Also make sure the carpets are dry. Octavia A5 can suffer from leaky door carriers just like the Fabia.

I'm having exactly the same problem with mine. Again cannot find any damp patches in the car at all. Think a trip to the dealer might be in order!

Check that the pollen filter is not full or dirt / debris, and has been installed the right way round, check scuttle is clear of leaves etc. and that the scuttle drain holes are not clogged?

Could it be that the a/c fluid needs to be replaced. You'll guess that I'm far from being technically skilled, but when I had an Astra, I had this same problem, which was only solved by having the a/c recharged.

Re: Help - Misting up & it's getting worse !

Guys, thanks for the replies...been out of circulation for the last few days...anyway just got the car back & all the points you mentioned were apparently checked...with nothing amiss...they have advised they have 'blown out' the a/c system...so hopefully that'll have helped??? If not I be back chapping on the door again ! They did tighten up the heat shields over the exhaust, which apparently was the rattling/vibration I felt when moving off ! The noisy power steering is a 'normal' noise apparently.
