How to remove 2.0 TDI engine cover?

I've just spent 4 1/2 hours cleaning the car this morning (not including vacuuming and dusting - took two hours to do that yesterday ). This included a general clean of the engine bay including wiping down every plastic box and pipe that I could get my hands on I also took out the bonnet liner so that I could give it a dust and wipe the entire under-bonnet clean

The only sticking point came when I wanted to take the plastic engine cover off as I'd spilled a bit of oil on it in the past and wanted to give it a good clean. In my old car (Seat Leon Cupra) this was easy - twiddle four plastic bolts and off it popped. The only thing I could find on the Skoda were a single bolt behind the cover and what felt like two clips, one at the front-left and one near the back-right. Not wanting to snap the thing in half I left it alone.

Any ideas how I can remove it?

Grab it at the front edge and pull up.

Re: How to remove 2.0 TDI engine cover?

there looked to be a single bolt at the very back left when i was lifting them off to see condition of engines on a couple today. The other bits all pull off though

Re: How to remove 2.0 TDI engine cover?

I do trust you ross, and i'm well aware you know your way around the cars infanatecimally better than i could ever hope to. I was just saying that when i tried to get the one off an octy 2 and a golf plus 2.0tdi today there was something through a piece of plastic at the back that just wouldn't budge that looked like a bolt.

I had pulled the rest off and was pretty brutal and it just wouldn't budge at teh back left.

The rest just pulled off fine

The plastic cover engages a C shape piece into a fixture at the back, you need to give it a tug towards you when the front of the cover has been lifted a little

The same as the Fabia vRS cover etc. Why I said pull it at the front, once its up it usually just falls off.

Mine was a pig the first time I pulled it off but it's much easier to get off now

Re: How to remove 2.0 TDI engine cover?

Is there a bow down smily?

You get the idea ok it seemed to be pulling on the bolt at the back, what is that bolt just behind the cover for anyway?

Re: How to remove 2.0 TDI engine cover?

The bolt holds the mounting on the engine, the cover just slides out from under it.

Ohhh, ok, would explain why that looked like where it was catching

Useful to know as my father just beat me to the nice 2.0tdi Octy 2 i was after. Sure i'll end up doing the oil changed and everything on that outside of warrenty.

Can you tell me when you are selling your car? as I think this car is going to be well looked after.
