| My Octy II Sport refuses to unlock with the remote control, not sure how it happened but it has. I've had a quick browse in the hand book and here on the forum and I guess my key is somehow out of sync. The advice in the handbook is of little help and a thread here on the forum seems to suggest that having unlocked the car with the key it is then held in the locked position for 20 seconds to reset the key. I have tried this but with no success. I have tried the spare set of keys which is working perfectly. The affected key still locks on the remote but it just wont unlock the car. I have also noticed that the small red led on the fob does not illuminate but the signal strength is more than enough to lock the car at a good distance which seems to indicate that the battery is ok. Any ideas or is it a trip to the dealers to sought it? |

| If the LED does not light and the car doesn't unlock it sounds like the switch on the fob is broken rather than any sort of dodgy battery or sync problems.

| Thanks for your reply. If the switch was broken, surely I wouldn't be able to lock the car or unlock the boot? Is this a common problem with remotes packing up? |

| On the fob there are three buttons each with an individual micro switch (probably) the unlock button switch could be faulty which is why the other functions work. Does the unlock button feel the same as the other buttons when it is pressed?

| Can't say that I can feel any difference in the three buttons although the led is not working which ever button I press. The led lights up on the spare key so I was wondering if the battery is on the way out even though its less than 6 month old. I guess I'll have to make that call to the dealer. |

| Broken button. No other explanation. It happens.

| Have had a similar problem myself, fob just stopped working despite LED lighting up. Could still use the actual key to open/unlock. Have been using spare key instead. Took to dealer, told me the microswitch was faulty which was why none of the buttons would open/close the car. Has ordered a new key fob for me and when it comes I'll have to go and visit them to encode/sync it. He told me that you can't re-sync the key like you could with the old VAG keys (it was something like, put key in ignition, hold open key for 10 sconds, take key out, hold close button for 10 seconds - or something like that). He said that you have to visit dealer to have resynced now (but can't confirm if true or not) |

I think these remotes have a very high reliability record. You've just been unlucky.

| To save you guys some money, these micro-switches cost literally pennies and are usually just 4 legs to solder on, a real doddle if you can use an iron at all. You can get them from maplin or RS and probably most good electronics places. This is the sort of thing you would be looking at: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?...o=4196&doy=3m5 This would save you a tonne of cash on a new remote and programming charges. EDIT: OK i didn't notice it was the new octy so a warrenty job, however still valid of owners of other cars with the same problem Last edited by cheezemonkhai; 03-05-2006 at 00:22. |

| Had this problem this weekend, first of all the unlock button on the fob gave up the ghost, no illuminated led when using the other two buttons either, but they still worked ! Today, this afternoon, unlocked the boot with the fob, loaded up shut the boot. The alarm reset as per norm and then I lost the other two buttons off the fob ! Called the AA for help and a very nice man came out, he checked the signal from the fob with a receiver meter and said the signal was very intermittent, he then checked the battery on a multimeter, nearly dead ! He replaced the battery with a new one and hey presto everything working again, no need to get it synced, so he said, happy days :o) |
