| Is it me or my car Car is 1.9TDI (DSG) Elegance (56 plate). Me, first time Skoda owner and diesel driver. Sometimes when I accelerate to pull away the car just refuses to rev up. Is this a fault with the car or my style of driving the Skoda? Would I solve the problem by pulling away in "manual mode"? Or, perhaps a softer foot on the accelerator. Many thanks for any help. |

| Re: Is it me or my car I think it's turbo lag. To overcome this when really necessary, just switch the DSG into Sport mode.

| Re: Is it me or my car Or an iffy MAF, or a going turbo or a blocked air/fuel filter. I change the air every 10k with genuine filters and will probably get the fuel done at a 40k service. How many miles has the car done and have you had the filters changed above and beyond the normal servicing?

| Re: Is it me or my car Had this problem when my PD140 was new and it turned out to be the Vacuum Valve Body - took the dealer 3 attempts to find the problem but once fixed it picked up much more quickly and smoothly. Not really sure what a Vacuum Valve Body is but it sure fixed the problem

| Re: Is it me or my car Providing there isn't any technical problem then I would go with the theory of hesitation. I have it with my 2.0 DSG - if I'm at a junction that I know I need to get a quick getaway from I'll stick the DSG into Sport mode and its OK, otherwise you press the accelerator and nothing happens for a split second then whoosh! I had a driver in a Golf pull out on me the other day - he thought he could pull out and get away before I got to him - you could see the Golf creep forward with me bearing down then suddenly the car took off. Hopefully the twerp had a brown pants moment and learns what his car can and can not do when he puts his foot down! If,and only if, you are into traffic light grand prix starts then you will need to pop it into Sport mode then you can make good progress when the lights change to green. But don't leave it in Sport as this mode hold onto the revs and diesels don't go quick when revved high - they need to be kept in a lower rev band and then the torque just carries then away. So as soon as you are off, pop it back in Drive and you keep building the power up and up (to the speed limit of course - no speeding here!)

| Re: Is it me or my car I think it is a feature of the DSG setup and may not be turbo-lag. Remember the set up has to cope with parking as well. So I think it is set up for gentle movements on gentle/moderate movements of the throttle otherwise those of us with DSGs could be hurtling into parked cars. I do though find my more hesitant to take off in normal traffic conditions first thing when the engine is cold. I have adapted by using more throttle for the first second or so and then easing off again so I don't get a surge forward when the turbo spins up ( unless I want ot of course ). The Standard Drive setting has to be a jack of all trades. |
