| MFD2-Update.. Hello, I feel very unhappy by ordering my new Octy just a few months before the MFD3 was introduced as standard. (Octavia 2,0 tdi, 4x4, L&K) I think the MFD2 or more precisly the software used, reminds me of early ages i.e the DOS era in computer development when it comes to picture appearance. (Very low and unprecise ground map quality!) I think of these options; (1) Continue using the old stuff and hope for upgrades from Blaupunkt - unlikely (2) Get a replacement by helps of Skoda (MFD 3 RNS 510) - expensive (3) Try to modify it to use the new software - possible ? I would be pleased and thankful for any suggestions based on your knowledge. Since this is my first posting, I would also take the opportunity saying hello to this community! Regards Egil |

| Re: MFD2-Update.. I don't know that the MFD3/Trinax/Columbus is standard (maybe unless you are not in the UK) There won't be any support from Blaupunkt for the MFD2. I don't think it's be feasible to mess with the SW on the MFD2 unless you were a programming genius.

| Re: MFD2-Update.. Hello and welcome to Briskoda ![]() The hardware in the MFD3 will be much more advanced than the MFD2, that includes the microprocessor and the system memory. The MFD2 architecture will in no way support the system used by the MFD3 (that would be like running Windows Vista on a 486 machine running windows 3.1). You have to bear in mind the MFD2 has been around for a good few years and is based on the MFD1 which was first seen in the Mk1 Audi A8 IIRC and you are talking early/mid 90's for that. Any software upgrades will be mapping data only. The chances of any system upgrades are virtually nil. If I had the money I would go for a retrofit of an RNS-510. Good luck.
