Re: motorbike oil vs diesel oil

The bike oil wont be designed for the same pressures and temperatures of a diesel engine. It also wont be designed to work with any diesel it may come into contact with in the cylinders.

Thats before you start thinking about all of the VW standards for oil it probably wont comply with and the implications it will have for the sensor in the sump.

Dont do it.

Never heard of anyone trying this. I also ride a bike but I wouldn't try swapping oil between bike and car, the specs are very different as are the demands of each vehicle.

Re: motorbike oil vs diesel oil

Bikes have no torque and stupidly high revs.

Diesels have but loads of torque and relatively low revs.

Thats without getting into the technicalities, but should explain why not to swap oils designed for different engines.

Re: motorbike oil vs diesel oil

I use semi synthetic vehicle oil in my bike that matches the specifcation required but obviously is not bike specific. I thought vehicle diesel oil had detergent in it to keep the engine clean?

thats what the VW specs define amoungst other things i would think.

And derv only oils do have special adatives in them to cope with derv muck.

Re: motorbike oil vs diesel oil

Bike clutches normally (rattly dukes exepted) are 'wet' i.e. they run in the oil and so the oil has friction modifiers to suit. i think a diesel would kill it...

Many modern bikes are very high revving, but there are some nicely 'torquey' muscle bikes. My GSX1400 has quite sufficient torque considering the size of the rear tyre contact patch.
