Re: Motorpoint New VRS at 14.3k

Is that Motorpoint Derby?

Seen a couple of thier cars going cheap recently. Not a dealer iirc but they buy cars from Inchape leasing who get them direct from Skoda so im told. Its how they get them cheaper.

yES HAD A LOOK ON THE WEBB SITE AND APPEAR TO HAVE 4 OR 5 ALL DELIVERY MILEAGE , ONE EVEN IN BLACK , DOES NOT SAY IF ITS AT THE DERBY OR OTHERSITES at that price it has got to be a real bargain . most likely will not be there for long though .

Re: Motorpoint New VRS at 14.3k

Don't Motorpoint have a habit of selling new imports, ones that come to the UK via the Rep of Ireland?

Would be interesting to see if this vRS is a pukka UK car....

If its an Irish spec car then you'd get a much higher specced car, unlike the mk1.

Wink Re: Motorpoint New VRS at 14.3k

Hiya, Sold my 52 plate octavia RS last year, and now i'm back! ordered one of the New RS's from motorpoints web site last week. There is no con to buying them from there..... know loads of people who have bought imported scobbies and megane 225's from there.

They are not built yet and have a build date at the factory of the 30th June 06. On top of standard uk spec you get metalic paint, The dual zone climate and jumbo box, rear electric windows. Thought it was too good to be true....... but its all good!

As they have to land in Malta first, they take a while to get here.... i have been quoted a wait til august before it arrives in burnley - my closest motorpoint. The warranty is two years instead of three - which the third year is with the dealer on a uk dealer car.

Even the V5 document doesnt say its an import, so there are no tell tale signs...... plus i read on the bbc website, about land rover having 10% of their dealer cars imported these days...... so gone are the days of dealers saying imports are a no no....... need i say more?

I have ordered mine in black magic and cant wait!!!!!

Re: Motorpoint New VRS at 14.3k

The main difference with Irish spec MkI's was the smaller wheels. Can't see there would be any difference on MkII's and as Gaff says, might even be a higher spec!

(If they are irish spec)* seems they aren't

Bargain!

The other thing on original Mk1 was A/C was std, we did get the armrest though The latter ones came with 17's & Climate.

There seems to be a big dirfference in std spec between Irish & UK Mk2,
Irish spec, 17” alloys, Dual climate control, ESP, Cruise Control, Side Airbags, Stream CD Player, Maxidot, Rear Wiper, TPM Tyre Pressure Monitor, Rear Electric windows and other usual suspects!!! (vRS Mats & Flaps etc). The Metallic Paint is Free.

Smile Re: Motorpoint New VRS at 14.3k

I used to work for motorpoint, and the car's price is for real, really great value! althought OTR road costs such as preparation, plates etc.. expect it to rise by £20-£50.

60% of the new cars sold are imports via france/malta/spain/ireland etc. The standard spec may differ slightly if the VRS is an import, but the person over the phone should be able to tell you the full spec of the car and whether its an import or not.
No cons or catches at motorpoint either, good company and really good value. Plus it could be a UK car for all we know I know a few good genuine guys that work there too, so I can put anybody who wants one in touch with a good decent sales person at the Burnley site.

Re: Motorpoint New VRS at 14.3k

You can tell when you do an HPi or experian check as it only brings up chassis number, no engine number shows. Most dealers are on to this,so be aware when you come to sell it. Also, I hope there are no serious recalls on safety issues, as I doubt Skoda in Malta will be writing to you.
Check if it has been undersealed properly as Malta's climate is a lot different to the UK so the car may not be prepared for salty roads in winter. (I know it will have been ordered to Uk spec, but that just means right hand drive).
You might need a remap to run on UK fuel, not all countries have 98 Ron fuel.

Anyway don't want to put a downer on your new car, just, make you aware of what could happen.

Re: Motorpoint New VRS at 14.3k

As long as the car has an EC declaration of conformity then you'll have no issues with underseal, fuel types etc because the car has to be the same for all markets in the EC. The only difference will be the spec.

Re: Motorpoint New VRS at 14.3k

How gutted am I... I paid 16k for my 2.0 TDi Elegance Estate, and is only 9 months old with 6500k on the clock.

Motorpoint only offered me 11.5k trade in yet parkers has the trade in at 14k, or private at 15k, otherwise I would have traded in then and there.

May have to keep mine and wait a couple of year for a new VRS..... or sell it private but the wife would kill me

.... I love my car but for this kind of money I wish I had waited... at the time Motorpoint only had the MK1 for 12,999.

Surely your local dealer will offer you considerably more for your car than Motorpoint. True the vRS will be more at the Dealer, but it sounds like the cost to change will be similar, which is the important thing.

Re: Motorpoint New VRS at 14.3k

parkers guide is rubbish mate tbh, not many people use that in the motor trade as it can be very unaccurate. Glass' guide and CAP give the realistic value for a trade in. 11.5K does seem at lil low though, should get 12k tbh

Re: Motorpoint New VRS at 14.3k

I agree, Parkers is crap and I've been bitten once or twice with it's inflated prices. Reviews are fairly comprehensive though.

Glasses is good but obviously you have to pay for each valuation. For quick look see's, The What Car? website has significantly lower (and probably more realistic) prices than Parkers for all categories except the list price.

Dave - I'm going to Malta on holiday in May - do you know where the dealer is in Malta so I can sneek a look at the spec differences before I decide whether to use Motorpoint or a dealer? Cheers pal!

Most Irish (republic of, anyway) cars which I have come across seem to be significantly LOWER spec!

(I travel to Ireland once a month on business, and driven a few!)

That is normally the case but for some reason and I dunno why but the New Octy vRS is higher specced in Ireland than UK cars. The std list has been posted here before.

As Malta is in the EU you should get Skoda's standard 2 year warranty but not the third year/60K warranty nor the 3 years Skoda Assistance which includes European cover since these are provided by Skoda UK for cars they supply.

Re: Motorpoint New VRS at 14.3k

I had a call from Motorpoint this morning - the Silver Octy VRS II I ordered back in March has been delivered to them. This wasn't due until July/August however it will be ready for pickup 3pm on Friday!!!! This surprised the hell out of me! It's come with the jumbo box, rear leccys and dual climate as promised.

The other good news is the wife has decided she wants to keep my 172 rather than me chopping it in. I really would miss this car if she went. So I now get the choice of 2 hot hatches to drive!!!!!

The downside is Motorpoint will only give me £800 trade in for her 01 seicento
sporting, which, er, leaves me slightly out of pocket :-( Nevermind eh!

I'l post up the Malta spec after pickup later in the week!
