Multi-function steering wheel, what does it do and is it worth it?

As the title says, I cant find any exact info on what the multi function steering wheel actually does, I presume it does volume control etc but as I am replacing the HU at some point when I get the new car I want to know whether it's worth selecting it as an option.

Cheers

Re: Multi-function steering wheel, what does it do and is it worth it?

Well mainly it helps you steer the car !!!! LoL!!!!

Oh well.........

It leather covered with 4 switches on ech side.
They cover the radio volume and statio preset hopping.
Mute button and one to turn the backlight on the buttons off.
There are two more buttons with arrows on to go up and down tracks etc.

Hope it helps!

Re: Multi-function steering wheel, what does it do and is it worth it?

mute
volume up/down buttons
button light on/off
track up/radio frequency move forward
track down/radio frequency move back
Track fast forward/disc change next/ station preset up
Track rewind/disc change back/ radio station preset back

I've found it useful and as the cost includes the maxidot, which I also like I think it is worth it

If you are going to change the HU don't bother with the steering wheel as it is all intergrated into the cars electronics with it's own controller and there is not an adapter out that will let you use the controls on an aftermarket HU.

Trouble is that maxidot and steering controls come as a packge and not separately.

Not on mine, Maxidot was a stand alone option (that I took).

Well he did ask.

But seriosuly, I think it is a great option and something I missed on my old car having had it on previous cars. As stated it came with Maxidot which is a massive improvement on the standard IMHO wouldn't be without it personally.

Having said all that if you swap the header unit it's pointless unless you could wire your new header unit in to it. Also as the Fan, Heating Reversing Sensors are on the Header Unit display I just opted for the Audience system as an built in MP3 Player was essential for me.

Same here, was on the showroom car I bought, thought it might have been a miss-build but it's a £90 option on its own.

Re: Multi-function steering wheel, what does it do and is it worth it?

Just as an aside... I've seen other threads saying you get the radio details, station etc. on the maxidot display. Not on mine you don't. Tried various ways of setting it up but still no joy, it would be handy to see the details on the dash instead of taking my eyes off the road to find what station or cd track I'm on. Any ideas???

I'd say the connector on the back of your radio isn't making a proper connection. I've had this a few times after removal/re-installation of my stream HU. Also, on my car the hands free kit seems to interfere occassionally with the radio when i first turn it on in that it prevents the maxidot audio display option being displayed. I think the car kit mute signal interupts the CAN-BUS initiallisation.

Do you mean you are selecting the option and nothings appearing or you cannot find the option? If you cannot find the option to switch it on then this is how you do it:-

Press and hold the up or down rocker switch for the MFD on the left stalk for a second or two
The display should now give you the option list
Press down to audio display and press the button on the bottom of the stalk
You should now have either the radio channel or the cd details in your maxi dot, if not time to visit a dealer.

Sorry for the delay.........

Thanks for the info and yes, I will give it a miss as the HU is coming out.

Opted for the maxidot on its own for 90 sobs.
