Default Multi-function Wheel and replacement HU

I would really like to replace the head unit on my Octy for something with DAB, but don't want to lose the steering wheel remote controls. Does anyone know if they will work with after market units and, if so, which ones?

I've seen some nice looking Blaupunkts on Ebay - I've given up on my first choice of a JVC unit as it looks cheap and nasty in the flesh, as does the Sony. The Blaupunkts are the only ones that are up to the standard of the Octy interior.

I believe the steering wheel remote controls will only work with a Skoda Head Unit.

Hmm, that would be a bit of a bummer. I notice that Skoda advertise a Blaupunk HU in the accessories section of their website, so I was assuming they would be compatible with multi-function wheel.

Just a quick update for anyone interested. You can get a CAN bus adapter for Blaupunkt HUs - should enable all remote functions and integrated lighting etc. A bit expensive at around £90, but well worth it to have a first-class sound system.

Got a Blaupunkt Woodstock DAB-54 brand new for £190, so total, including facia adapter, around £300.

Just waiting for the postman now.

Be interested to see how this install pans out. I happen to know of someone who's installed a DAB53 in and OctyII. As far as I am aware there isn't a switched live on the Quadlock.

The 16 pin plug pins 15 and 16 are 'Terminal 30' which is direct from the battery. AFAIK the car uses CANBUS to switch the radio on etc.

Perhaps your CANBUS adapter will resolve the issue. You may also need to disable controller which is the radio so that you don't have a fault on the CAN controller.

The item is on this page Skoda Octavia installation

I believe it will turn radio on, control the backlight and interface with steering remote. I'll just have to wait and see.

As Skoda advertise a Blaupunkt DAB 52 as an approved add-on on their website, I can only assume it would have to be fully compatible and the 54 should be similar in this respect. The only thing I know I'll lose is the graphic display of parking sensors and some stuff that's repeated elswhere.

I just hope it looks the part when fitted.

Looks like that should cover it.

Just got the adapter today and can confirm it works, except the double arrows on the left hand side don't seem to do anything.

Volume, Preset/track up/down, and mute work on steering controls. GALA, accessory on and backlight all work as they should as well.

Very pleased. It's just a shame the facia adapter is a little bit cheap looking. Maybe I can get a better quality one somewhere. Does anyone know if Skoda do one?

A nice touch with the Blaupunkt DAB 54 is you can alter the backlight colour to match the other lights - fantastic!

Skoda is AZ0 600 003 for Climatronic and AZ0 600 002 for Climatic cars.
