My New Octavia vRS

Can't wait! Picking it up Saturday morning, one week early! Not looking forward to the dent in the wallet much, but, I'm sure the car will wipe a smile across my face

Got to get from Reading to Mansfield, but a hire car is sorted for that. Rainworth are going to pick me up from the hire place - top guys Jeremy and Steve.

The car is being treated to a boot mat and the paint/interior protection (can't remember which one it is).

Apart from the obvious scratches, swirls, dents etc with paint work (and extra's) is there anything else to look out for in particular?

I'll pop some pic's up once I make it back to Reading!

Re: My New Octavia vRS

Have a look at this thread - http://www.briskoda.net/forums/new-o...-checks/80757/ - which asked a similar question.

I also read recently that some dealers appear not to have bothered to check the tyre pressures - would be a good idea to check yourself anyway asap after picking it up.

Re: My New Octavia vRS

Yup; tyre pressures seems to be a popular 'missed it' by dealers at present.

Simple thing; check that the options you have orders have actually been fitted!

My dealer went through a 'delivery proceedure' that took about 45 mins, it seemed a bit tedious but he made sure that every thing was covered. He should point out which Service Interval, is set on the car - fixed or variable. In fact, having mentioned this, he should ask you NOW which regime you want the car set to, so that it can be set on PDI.

On the way back just relax and waft along on the wave of TFSI torque or tsunami of TDI torque (don't think you said which one you're getting).

Depends on your expected annual mileage and typical journey pattern. Suggest you discuss you discuss with your dealer.

For me I do c.18-20,000 miles pa with a 50 mile daily commute on mixture of M'way/A road and Urban plus occasional trips - I'm on variable and likely to service at 18,000 miles/one year.

Re: My New Octavia vRS

I was really impressed with Rainworth Motors, nothing was too much trouble for them, a good cappucino too.

Hi to the guy with the Fabia vRS SE who I met down there, if you're on the site

Very nice apart from the wood burning stove under the bonnet!

Seriously though, good choice and having seen an estate vRS at the weekend I'm begining to wish I'd gone for one myself

I'm afraid a diesel will never be cool. Using Clarkson's test, you turn up to pick up Kristin Scott Thomas in a diesel and she'll think you drive a bus.

Steady on Harry, I can vouch that the PD170 is far from slow, it just aint quite up to the petrol that's all.

Re: My New Octavia vRS

@makefish, thanks... hopefully I'll catch up with you at the next meet in newbury...

TDi is both cool, and slower than the TFSI. I've only done 200 miles so far, but the drive is totally different to my previous octy 1 rs (obviously). It is a lot more relaxed to drive but will push on when you want it to, oh... and the economy is excellent already next to the previous car

The interior is the most important change for me, it is IMO a massive step up from the previous generation. Don't get me wrong though, I loved my previous one too!

Its your car and as long as you enjoy it, it doesn't matter a jot what we others think.

Enjoy it, and enjoy learning how to get the best out of it, it takes a while.
