New engines for Octavia

This article http://www.autorevue.cz/Bleskovky/Sk...9/default.aspx I think says from week 22 the 2.0TDI CR 170BHP engine will replace the older 2.0 diesel in the RS.

And from weeks 40 and 45 the 1.4TSI will replace the 1.6FSI and 1.6 CR-TDI will replace the 1.9 TDI.

Re: New engines for Octavia

Hi everyone. First post

I ordered an brand new Octavia 1.6FSI Elegance yesterday (Sunday) in Cappuccino beige for delivery on 1st March. Today I get home from work and there is a message on my answerphone from the dealer telling me that he can not get hold of one in that colour. I phoned him back and he has said that Skoda wont be having any more in that colour.

I thought this sounded strange as its the very colour they use on the front of their latest brochure so they cant be discontinuing it, I also find it strange that Volkswagen had discontiued the 1.6 too (I was looking at the Golf Plus) so this thread clears up what I was already suspecting .... the dealers are trying to get rid of any 1.6FSIs that Skoda have in stock.

What is the HP rating for the 1.4TSI ? Should I cancel my order and wait or try and haggle a better deal on whatever colours they have left (I already got FREE metallic paint, floor mats & front mud flaps thrown in).

Re: New engines for Octavia

The 1.4 comes in several power guises. I think the one in the Octy will be around 120bhp though.

I would be inclined to twist your dealers arm a little more if this is the case!

erm, that's the petrol lump which is very much alive and continuing and post does'nt say that anyway, it refers to the 2.0 TDI which is currently 170bhp!

Re: New engines for Octavia

The engine changes will only be a positive thing, smaller turbocharged petrols will offer better fuel consumption, lower emissions and better performance. Next generation diesels will be cleaner, quieter and smoother.

2.0FSI: 150BHP, replaced with 1.8TSI: 160BHP, better MPG and lower emissions.

1.6FSI: 115BHP, replaced with 1.4TSI: circa 120BHP and again better MPG and lower emissions.

1.9TDI: 105BHP, replaced with 1.6 CR-TDI: circa 100 and 130BHP and surprise surprise, lower emissions, quiter, less smokey and generally cleaner in the case of the derv engines.

The CR 170 TDI will be superior to the PD engine in many ways. Probably a better power/torque curve, more reliable DPF system and quiter when cold and at idle. Probably 3-5mpg better too.

The only negative thing with the turbo petrols might be when it comes to servicing but I can't confirm that.

Progress is a good thing

I'd be inclined to hold out for the newer engine and the colour you want if I were you.

Re: New engines for Octavia

And what happens with 2.0 TDi 140bhp???????
Is there replacement for that one??????
I've seen new model Audi A4 with 2.0 TDi 143bhp common rail. Is that the engine SKoda will have????
I have 2.0 TDi 140bhp and was looking forward to replace it with more or less the same power but not lower like 1.9 TDi 130bhp.

That'll probably be the 1.6 TD in the 130hp variant.

Oh no...
I don't want that one and wouldn't have enough money for VRS

Re: New engines for Octavia

Based on the fact that all replacement engine lines seem to be the same or more powerful.... you may end up with a CR 2.0 TDI down tuned to 140bhp.

I hope so.
I was wondering, if VW group (VAG) uses the same engines in low and middle models, would new A4 Audi's engine, 2.0TDi 143bhp CR be the one for Octy too?
Or, is it just some kind of transition engine? It is in the dealer's showroom already. Went to see it the other day (I'm talking about new A4).

Re: New engines for Octavia

I would think the 1.6 CRTDI 130 will replace the PD140 also.

Why, because this will lower the cars overall CO2 emissions and so tick another EU target tick box.

I doubt you will notice the missing few horses as IIRC it will probably make up for it in other ways.

That plus lower emissions, lower tax, less vibration (hopefully save some DMF's)

Might even find that the "Elegance TDI" gets the 2.0 CRTDI 170 just like the old elegance got the TDI110 over the TDI90 in the lesser models.

Re: New engines for Octavia

While all this 170bhp malarkey sounds interesting in the diesel variant, the one to get is the new 200bhp TDi 2.0 that’s going into the Audi TT. Now that would be FUN!

Re: New engines for Octavia

Well i'm a bit ticked there is gonna be a new engine in the vRS when I specifically asked if there were any updates coming when I got mine last September.

Something to look forward to in 2010 I suppose when its time to change.

Re: New engines for Octavia

I have been "assured" by my Skoda dealer that the new engines will only be used in the Fabia and that the Octavias engines will remain until 2010 !

Hands up those who think his story should be filed under FICTION ??

Also ... I have been in contact with other dealers who confirm that the 1.6 FSI is only available in SATIN GREY for anywhere near or on the 1st I have now changed the order to a 1.9 TDI PD ... is this engine pretty quiet ? I have never owned a diesel before.
