New Occy - Best Discount

Does anyone have any advice on typical discounts and deals on the new Occy? I'm about to drop a deposit on one and the dealer noted that Skoda didn't do discount due to it 'devalueing' the brand....not sure about this....

Thoughts?

Perhaps time to try another dealer then. You ought to be able to get minimum of 5% but probably more.

Cheers Stu. Some bartering to be done. Not many Skoda dealers around though. My most local (Salisbury) disapeared. Seems that Skoda dealerships dont last that long....hope thats not a trend!!!

Hi there totaly agree with Stu that you should try other dealers as there is always a deal to be done. Money's off screen price or optional extras added.

Re: New Occy - Best Discount

Just to echo what they said above, - never pay the list price.

I paid 17K for mine (which I think was list price at the time - June 06) but had the following extras, 18" alloys, jumbo box, dual zone climate, cruise control and maxidot. So whatever they cost to add that's how much I saved - probably about £1300.

Seriously, though, that's absolute complete tosh. Skoda may have a brand to protect, but they're not quite in Audi TT (off the top of my head, one of the few cars that aren't discounted by any significant amount on Drive the Deal) territory just yet!

I bought my vRS TDi for roughly £2000 off list, and I bet you can, too.

Re: New Occy - Best Discount

Got about £1300 off list for my vRS and tbh probably could have got more off if I really pushed. Ordered it at the time people were ordering new cars for the 07 plates too, which is probably the worst time to order. Picked the car up at the start of last month.

Re: New Occy - Best Discount

There are defo deals to be done -- especially if you can have the funds ready and have no car to P/X -- best time is second half of the month when the dealers are trying to hit target.
Sometimes they will blow most of the margin they have -- especially if that means they will get a registrations bonus from Skoda -- that can make a big difference to there months figures

Re: New Occy - Best Discount

Thanks for all the replies guys! I was pretty sure there was some serious BS going down.

Anyway, spoke to an other dealer today and it looks like i'm going to get a very good deal from them (big thanks to Stu for helping out on that one!).

Looking good for a return to the brand.

Try a car broker-I am looking at £13921 for a 2.0 FSI Elegance.

Also What Car? magazine show an achievable price and if your dealer won't match they will give you the details of one who can.

Just depends if you like dealing local or not.

Re: New Occy - Best Discount

Hi Dor.
I've recently ordered an Octavia Sport 2.0 TDi with DSG gearbox plus rear sensors, pearlescent paint, active front headrests, curtain airbags, maxidot and jumbo box/Climatronic. List price for that lot is £20,315 on the road. I took along a print out of the drivethedeal.com price and got the dealer to match it at £18,000. a pretty big discount I think you'll agree. So it goes to show that it can be done. If the dealer hadn't gone for it drivethedeal seemed very good so I'd have gone with them instead. Happy haggling.

Paul

Re: New Occy - Best Discount

Bit late to the party here, but I just want to echo all the other replies.

No discounts...protecting the brand...I have never heard such an enormous pile of steaming bulls**t.

If you'd have ordered at list price he'd have wet himself laughing as you walked out the door.

On the otherhand I put the deal I was being offered from a broker in front of 3 Skoda dealers, told them I would sign NOW if they matched...they all declined. They preferred to try to scare me off the broker instead with the usual "you'll never see the car at that price"...err it's sat on my drive and "it will be an import"....err no it's from Benfield Skoda in Harrogate.

The way I see it is that you may get lucky at a dealer who needs a deal but a broker will always find the dealer that wants the deal the most and therefore get the best price.

Happy bargain hunting.

Re: New Occy - Best Discount

I did the same, i managed to get a price on a black vrs tdi estate with jumbo box, cruise amd maxidot for £18300 from a broker. With a list of £20485 thats a saving of £2185. My local dealer couldnt even get close and was quite honest about it. Best he could do was about £700 off!! He was very good abut it because he said i should take the deal from the broker and he will still be happy to look after me once i had the car.

Cant say fairer than that!!

Re: New Occy - Best Discount

Presuming that Skoda dealers have the same margins as VW - they have 17% in new cars - and 8% in any factory options fitted.
So a Skoda dealer COULD and do match brokers if they so desired - alot will depend on how high there targets are and how close they are to meeting them.

The other thing they have to bear in mind is how many vehicles they have been allocated - they obviously dont want to give cars away if they can sell there allocation without discount. The key here is to shop around - although as I have previously said I've always been prepared to pay a little more to buy from my dealer - I feel more comfortable with the extra support received.

About 6 months ago I was offered a Superb 2.0 TDI Elegance factory order AT COST - purely becuase it would help the dealer reach there target for Superb - in the end I didnt bother, but that was only becuase my house sale fell through.

Re: New Occy - Best Discount

When did VW start giving 17% to dealers again? When I first started selling cars in the late 80's most models had 17.5% across them + Units registered bonuses. On the stickers in the range we also got an additional registration bonus (extra 30% sometimes on Fiat Cromas) but the EU saw to all that when it ruled car prices on the price drop of uk cars and the opening up of ordering a RHD car abroad and importing it. The manufacturers dropped dealer margins then to 5-7% and few offer anything like 10%+ nowadays. Bigger discounts are available via a fleet dept but only if it is sold to a company hence the silly discounts you can get from a broker but other than that then the dealer is using their bonuses to secure deals, a risky business and the reason you see pre reg cars on forecourts.

It may be different levels for different dealers ?? - not sure on that one, the dealer I work for is part of a 3 dealership retailer group - and our site alone sells in the region of 1,500 new car's a year (a large proportion of that direct to fleet companies) Plus as I said in my previous post - I was offered a Superb TDI elegance list price of £21k for £18.5k - which has got to be cost or less.

Also sometimes dealers will agree to move a higher than normal level of a certain model / colour to recieve a higher bonus - but as you correctly say - this can be a gamble.

Re: New Occy - Best Discount

I think now has got to be a good time to buy a new Skoda.

Give it some logical thought, a dealer would have sold Fabia as a large proportion of his/her target. The Fabia is no longer available but targets will still have to be met.

Re: New Occy - Best Discount

From my new car hunting experiences over the past 6 months I was told by various VW and Skoda dealers that their margin was between 5% and 7% - few were willing to budge beyond this. I got some prices off the web from the likes of drivethedeal and went trawling round dealers - the one I finally did the deal with got fairly close to the DTD price, which I was happy with as I wanted ideally to buy from a local (ish) dealer. Final discount was about £1200.

Re: New Occy - Best Discount

DTD is who I ordered mine through, and all being well, I am due to take delivery on the 17th May.

Race blue TFSi VRS, with Jumbo Box, 18" alloys, Active Head Restraints for £16,200 OTR.

So far, it has all gone like clockwork. DTD contacted me within an hour of placing my order, to confirm all the details, the supplying dealer rang me the following day to confirm receipt of the order, and appropriate phone calls have been received and paperwork has arrived through my letterbox just as you might have expected/wanted.

My three local Skoda dealers all let me walk away, as they could not get anywhere near the DTD price.

I'll post back and let everyone know if the delivery all goes OK.

I ordered mine on Tuesday night. DTD called me on Wednesday afternoon (late because Skoda systems were down). I await a call from the dealer.

Re: New Occy - Best Discount

Though not to do with Skoda, I've had my requested terms agreed to as I walked out of the dealership door. Told them I was tootling off to the Midlands to look around [blatant lie]. It was a case of the salesperson shouting "hang on a minute - I'll phone xxxxx !"

I had made it clear I was a serious buyer prepared to sign on the dotted line there and then.
