Question New Octavia 'ping'

I have an Octavia Elegance 2.0 TDI PD with DSG. It's just over two weeks old with about 500 miles on the clock and I am thrilled with it. However, at some point on practically every journey, whether short or long, I get a single 'ping' sound. There are no warning signals on the display and everything seems to be working fine. Should I be concerned or just ignore it? Does anyone have any views/ideas?

Any idea from where this ping comes from ?
does it happen after a fixed time or distance ?
does it happen with passengers in the car?

low outside temperature warning is a single "ping" on the Fabia... coule it be the same warning on the Octavia ?

How do you find the DSG with the diesel?

The ping comes from the same place as the seat belt warning sound. It does not happen after a fixed time or distance - it seems to be completely random. It happen with or without passengers.

Is the sound the same type as the seatbelt warning - if it is could be related to seat sensor that worksout wether seatbelt is needed or not.

The other thing that it might be - but I don't know if the octavia has it - speed warning - with audi you can set a speed warning - which is just a beep.

Hope this helps

That's a possibility I had not thought of. Thanks, Dave, I'll look up the handbook.

The DSG is fantastic. In auto mode the gear change is seamless. I have been driving automatics for 20 years+ and this beats anything that's gone before!

My favourite version of DSG is in the A3 2.0 PDTDi - just seams to suit it perfectly

Thanks for that, Dave. Yes. it's the same as the seatbelt warning, only just one ping, not continuous. I don't know whether the Octavia has a speed warning, but I don't think it could be that anyway, because it happens at fairly low speed.

ping

i think you will find it is when the temperature goes down to 4 degrees outside. all vw group products with temp gauges do it at 4 degrees. It is always just the one ping to signal that. lemme know if its not!

Not only goes down but also rises.

I am surprised that there is not a ping at ignition turn on when the temperature is 4 deg or below.

I've noticed that mine pings at 4deg but doesn't display the temp on the dashboard display as it's on the radio display. If you have the dash display selected to the temp then the ping coincides with the display flashing and the ice symbol appearing. It also flashed the temp display at engine startup if the temp is below 4deg

I have my new Octavia just one week and have noticed the same thing. It pings and then the * (snowflake) icon appears on the display. afaik it's just the temperature alarm, though I haven't even looked through the manual yet.

I got a 'strange' ping on 2 occasions from my new OctyII.
Both were happily explained after reading the manual more carefully!..

The first was the 'snowflake' warning. (Yes, we do sometimes get below 5 degrees in Cyprus in winter!...)

The second was the speed limit warning which was set (by mistake) to 20km/h. But it does show a written warning too if you have the on board computer (Elegance).

Hope this helps
Regards
