| New Octavia vRS Prices and Equipment Just been given the new Octavia vRS Prices and Equipment levels: Hatch £17 500 Estate £18 200 The bad news is it only has air conditioning and not climate!! No parking sensors as standard either. All other equipment as previously guessed, including half leather seat and 17" 'Zenith' alloys. Interior has black headlining, side airbags are included but curtain bags are optional. Other equipment includes ESP and tyre-pressure monitor. stokey

| Briskodian | £17500 can't see many of them shifting then. Hard to imagine that it wouldn't have climate, it would be unusual for the spec to be lowered on the newer model surely? |

| I think they will sell well personally. We sell plenty of £20k Elegances when people decide they want alot of the extras. The new Octavia allready has a big following. |

VW Group now have Audi, VW and Skoda as equal partners with slightly different spec choices; Audi may be the top range but VW and Skoda are neck-and-neck with complementary spec changes to differentiate them. I don't see that one is now a higher prestige than the other - the Quality reports putting Skoda at the top of the quality charts has hugely boosted Skoda's image and the Fabia and new Octavia have both received excellent reviews. | |

| Price has gone up substantially compared to the old one! I guess VW did the same with the Golf GTI! I'm sure it will be very close to the Golf GTi in performance so maybe they had lift the price up as not to upset Golf GTI owners too much who have spent £22-24k inc. options!

| Don't forget though that the old vrs has been very heavily discounted over the last 12 months. For most of it's life it was significantly more expensive than the last ones have been sold at and compared to that the new one isn't as large a price jump. It also compares very favourably to the GTI just as the last one did

| I'd definately be looking at the Focus ST instead (if I had the money to change). The Recaros alone would be swinging it, I think, even if it weren't for the five-cylinder snarl. These photos look good, but it's no longer a clear choice like the "old" vRS was. http://vortex3.rely.net/gallery/gall...20Octavia%20RS

| I think its a huge let down IMO Its such a big car to drive anyway....my wife has an Octy 2. Its nothing like driving an Octy 1 by any stretch....It looks like an uprated Octy 1 vRS....Wheels look the same, same looking spoiler, interior. I was looking forward to seeing this but feel its awful.....I wont be rushing to swap mine. At least the engine's good.... Saying that I've not driven one and am simply going on my first instincts....I'd like to be proved wrong.

| Briskodian | I think the Diesel will be the one most people go for when it is released spring 2006 {according to Auto Express who cover it this week}, sadly the best thing going for it in my books is the new Yellow. |

| Briskodian | I like it now apart from the light bits on the seats. Forget the leon and focus st.They are a different kettle of fish and should be for people considering smaller hatchbacks with room for a brolly in the boot. The main thing about the octavia is what you can fit in the boot. One seat leon and one focus st probably. If you don't need a big boot get one of the others. If you appreciate the space of an octavia then its cracking compared to its real rivals, vectra sri/gsi and mondeo st's. Price for the last one was £15.5 k at launch(IIRC).Thats not a bad increase in four years! ![]() |

| Briskodian | I'm disappointed also. 17.5K is a 15% price increase over the list price of 15.1K that I paid for the old one. Then with the options (no doubt metallic paint is extra as usual) its going to be over 18K!! Too expensive. And for only 20 extra bhp. Should've had 18" wheels as standard also (maybe it will in the UK?). No longer the performance bargain it was. Maybe the next version will be better..... |

| Briskodian | The price has got to be expected when you look at others in the range. If it was 15k ish it would be cheaper than a Sport???? You can't compare a Leon / Focus against it. The Leon for one only has 340L boot space. (Its interior is not clever either). Saying all this am a little dissapointed it doesn't come with Climate as std. Are the prices and specs quoted reliable??? |
