| Are new Octavias ugly? Now I know they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and also there will be a major biased response to this question on this forum, but do you think the new octavia looks ugly or not?! ![]() I've always preferred the "germanic" influence in car design - I like VAG, merc, BMW...not so keen on the italian influences in car design or Japanese (except maybe the new civic hatch)...I was even looking possibly at getting an Alf Romeo 159 and despite everybody raving about the looks, personally it doesn';t excite me in looks! ....a colleague of mine just spotted my octavia brochure, and said "Dude, that's so ugly you're not seriously getting one of those are you?!"....he drives a 3 year old honda accord, which personally I don't like the look of!...... ...is there something wrong with me or my eyes?!?! I dunno! so can we objectively look at the design and decide if the new octavia looks good or not??!?!?! ![]() |

| Re: Are new Octavias ugly? I bought the new Civic mainly on its looks (never again will I do that) - but did think the Octy needed a little somethng, I am not sure I would have just bought my Octy if there were not the option of the sport bumpers and the milotec spoiler. These IMHO transform the look of the car, and the vRS looks great, so no it is not an ugly car, just lacking a little in standard details to show it at its best ![]() |

| Re: Are new Octavias ugly? Ugly? - no. Really good looking? - no. It's not a bad looking car , but I don't see them and think "wow" , and appearance wasn't a major factor when I bought it.

| Re: Are new Octavias ugly? I like the new Octy so much I have just ordered a VRS, and I am counting off the days waiting for it. I have driven several nice motors in my time, but I dont think I have ever been so excited about a new one that is coming as I am at present. At the end of the day it is all down to personal taste - if you like it that is all that counts. The world would be a boring old place if we all liked and disliked the same things!

| Re: Are new Octavias ugly? They aren't Ugly, but they don't look good enough to stand out either. Kind of an Average looking thing really. But, i don't care, because the vRS looks better than the rest of the range (though the Sport is pretty damn smart), and thats good enough for me

| Re: Are new Octavias ugly? Not ugly but they're no Alfas. They're a bit plain I suppose but then I don't particularly want a car that attracts the Saxo, Corsa whale tail and rusty arches crowd. I'm quite happy with it being a bit of a sleeper (if you can call a race blue VRs a sleeper). I don't think I'd have a standard car. I think the VRs kits really makes a difference.

| Briskodian | Re: Are new Octavias ugly? They are ok. Not ugly, not pretty. I'm expecting a delivery of a 2.0 TDI next week, black with ivory interior. So I guess they're not too bad ![]() The Alfa 159 on the other hand... that is the definition of beautiful, IMO. It is astonishingly pretty. Haven't driven it though. |

| Re: Are new Octavias ugly? Personally wouldn't say the octy or the civic were 'pretty' cars but it's a subjective thing. I remember when cars started getting more rounded (sierra era) thinking they weren't as nice as the older cars, cortinas, capris etc Ugliness is ever evolving.

Then engine warning light came on just as he was telling me how Alfa build quality and reliability was much better these days. In fairness it turned out to be nothing much and he's had little bother with his two Alfas.

I kinda expected that, I think the current boss in their quality department used to work at BMW. If they can get their act together on the quality issues, Alfa is going to make some waves (I think). They are stunningly pretty and from what I've driven, they are drivers cars. The price is also quite low, much lower than a Merc or a BMW. The price depreciation... that is another issue. It will be better if the quality proves to be good. I'll still wait for a few years though before ordering one ![]() [/offtopic] P.S. Please feel free to correct any spelling errors, this is my third language. Help will be appreciated. | |

| Re: Are new Octavias ugly? I personnally think it is OK to look at but the grill doesn't quite look right. Maybe it is the colour as it does seem to look better when that is painted, judging by the pictures on here from people who have done it to their cars. The estate version looks like a baby merc (or possibly a volvo!). As for Alfa's, they look really good until the number plate is put on. It sort of ruins it. Mark |

| Re: Are new Octavias ugly? The Octavia is marketed as being practical and exciting, the looks are practical and not particularly exciting but it's a good looking car overall. If I want an exciting looking car I will but an Evo or the old style Scooby but I don't - that's why I have an Octavia ![]() I certainly wouldn't say it's ugly, it's not even close. THIS is ugly: ![]() This is NOT ugly. ![]()

| Re: Are new Octavias ugly? Just ordered my second estate, prefer the looks to the hatchback. My son says the front looks like a Rover. My opinion is that it looks a bit understated, even in VRS trim, but the Octy just does what it says on the tin,, and it does it very well. |
