New Octy build dates

Morning all,

Are the build dates reliable? My vRS had a build date of 25/06 (sooo long away), sales chap suggests that delivery is 5 days after the completion of the build.

I wouldn't be so bothered but my Clio is well over due it's 54k service (nearly 57k) and needs new rear disks. I don't want to spend anything if I have to but I might need to if the build is likely to slip. + My clutch pedal is currently held together with a couple of cable ties.

My vRS has the deal extras (dual climate, jumbo box, rear e/w, 18" and cruise) dunno if that makes things harder for them. Sales chap did mumble that things could slip if they run of of climate units or wheels etc.

sniff I just want me new toy

Re: New Octy build dates

I know when I ordered my Elegance last year, I was told that anywhere between 8-12 weeks should be expected before car s delivered.

In the end, it took 10 weeks.

Re: New Octy build dates

Ask the dealer that, if in the event your car is not delivered 5 days after the stated build date, will he provide you with a courtesy car until it does.
I suspect delivery dates are given as a guide only, and that the answer will be almost certainly be a NO. But if you don't ask you won't find out.

Just for info, the extras on your car may well mean it will be built to order. If its fairly standard, they can sometimes source them from stock in a much shorter time.

Re: New Octy build dates

Did you buy it on the current offer?

Škoda UK - Octavia vRS now available with free equipment upgrade*

The spec you are getting seems to be similar to their free upgrade offer, although you mention cruise as well.
I seem to remember reading that they will have a stock of the "upgrade" models available for shorter delivery - they say you need to register it by 30/06/07 to get the offer.
So a couple of thoughts - is it the cruise that is making yours a factory order? You might get a quicker delivery if you order without and can then get it retro-fitted (Octavia-vrs.com or Awesome GTI Store UK - VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda Performance & Styling)
What happens if your car is not registered before 30/06? Will you still get the deal (free servicing and equipment upgrade?) Maybe the dealer has entered it into the system as 25/06 plus 5 days to make sure you do?
Good luck!

Re: New Octy build dates

Regarding delivery dates, there was an item on a business news channel on the TV about a week ago about a possible strike at the skoda factory. I haven't heard anything since. Does anyone out there know if the industrial action will take place?

I did check this. The order for the car has to be placed before 30/06 and it has to be delivered/signed over etc before the end of July.

Strike at the factory! Crap! It's bad enough that it's going to be a Monday car.

April Strike

BBC NEWS | Business | Skoda workers on strike over pay

Seems to have only lasted 1 day with a deal being made for 2007-2008

Strike at Skoda over - International Herald Tribune

Hopefully that's the only one.

Re: New Octy build dates

Update on the strike: There was a strike on Tuesday, to strengthen the union's hand for Wednesday negotiations. There was also a walk out in April, so there is possible disruption ahead! By the way the skoda workers want a 12% pay rise.

Re: New Octy build dates

Sure you're not mixed up with las month's strike?

Skoda agrees wage deal with unions | Reuters

Quote:
Skoda agreed, in a deal valid until to end of 2008, that wage tariffs would rise by 10 percent immediately, but overall wages including various benefits would grow by 12.7 percent in the period.

Jahn (the HR man) said that the management considered the strike a closed matter and expected to recoup the lost production.
"We lost some cars, but we will catch up with it in the foreseeable future," he said.

The unions said in a statement they would help to make up for the lost production.

Re: New Octy build dates

yes you are correct. It looks like the dispute was settled on the 19/04/07 so Skoda must have returned to full production.

Re: New Octy build dates

Ordered mine on 28th May, most likely will be a factory build due to extras.

Dealer reckoned it should be with me by end of June given the current build times, but they can't be certain. On the off chance that its not with me until July, they were 99.9% certain that Skoda would extend the current offer to allow for the delay, but is going to get back to me with confirmation on that one...

Re: New Octy build dates

I'm hoping they will be knocking them out in the factory. The dealer I was at had more than a few inquiries about the vRS just in the week after I ordered mine (29/04), he said he's been selling 3 cars a day for the last month and that's a real backwater franchise.

I just hope I get it before the middle of July when I go on holiday. I don't think I could cope knowing my new toy is sitting about doing nothing.

Re: New Octy build dates

OT...

Anyone know why the new vRS comes with red calipers rather than green?
I think I prefer the green myself.
