Hi all.

I've had my new 07 vRS FSI for a few week now and have a few questions. Forgive me if i ask anything stoopid but this is my first brand spanking new motor.

• I've only done 100 miles so far. The engine sounds a bit rattly (more like a diesel!), particularly when first started. Is this normal? Presumably it'll get quieter as the engine components bed in? How many miles are recommended for running in and at what engine speeds?
• Having read the "tip and tricks" sticky, i've noticed that my car doesn't have remote windows open/close which appears to be a standard feature?
• I had a bit of a hooo-ha getting the car (nearly 5 months wait!) so ended up with an 07 instead of a 56. It was supposedly a factory build but the service book has a 3rd party dealer name as the first owner who were supplied by Claybank main dealer in Manchester. I knew it would be pre-registered but this seems to have too many middle men for my liking. How can i tell if i've got a new factory build or an older car newly registered? Will be interesting to see what the V5 says...
• I don't have the V5 (i still call it the log book) and my dealer says it can take upto 6 months. That seems an awfully long time and after all my previous hassles/fob offs and the above concerns, am i right to think there is an odour resembling BS?

Other than that, an absolutely fantastic bit of kit! Really nice to drive and i have to admit that it's superior to the BMW 325i i previously owned.

A couple of comments where I can!

From what I have heard when my neighbours 2.0 FSI (non turbo) Audi A3 starts up, it certainly isn't the quietest engine I've heard. I think the FSI technology is similar in some ways to diesel so thats maybe why?

If the car came from a broker type thing and you were told it would be pre-registered, this may explain the 6 months for the log book. If a dealer has to pre-register for sales targets etc, you get the cheap car but the dealer may not be allowed to "officially" sell for 6 months. They keep the log book until they are allowed to sell it, keeps Skoda happy that the public are not getting their hands on cheap motors just like that. It is a fairly common practice from what I've read when I was investigating the best way to buy my new Octavia.

The FSI engines all sound this way, its the way they work direct injection of fuel etc - sound a little like a diesel especially on start up - normal

Have you tried holding the open button down ( 5 secs) when the windows are up and vice versa the close when they are down? worked on all the ones i have driven?

Dealers quite regularally swap cars for different customers - if you PM me your reg number a may be able to find out for you? failing that have you tried ringing customer services? or better still the DVLA?

Also i cant see your V5 taking more than 6 weeks...... never have i heard of waiting 6 months! now that is crazy!

Engine noise is quite normal, a trait of the TFSI engine I'm affraid.

As someone has already stated, to operate the windows remotely push and hold the key fob for more than 3 seconds and this should have the desired effect, if not, then call in at your dealer to get it enabled (or a local with VAG-Com would be able to check it for you too).

Look at the VIN number on the inside cover of the Service Book or on a sticker under the carpet in the boot.

The 10th digit (a number) is the year of production. e.g. - 6 = 06.

Some of the experts in here will be able to give you more detailed information.

If you look at some of my earlier posts you will realise why I am keeping my fingers crossed for you. Good luck.

hey birchy glad to see you finally got your vrs .. The 6 months for the v5 is apparently normal although it may arrive quicker than the 6months i was also told the same by dc cook . my car also came from claybank motors its who dc cook buy the cars from but i think in the service book its regestered as company cars direct which is part of the dc cook group .. i have noticed the engine is a little noisy but i dont find it too bad .. enjoy your new car you waited long enough for it

Six months for a V5 - b*** s*** in my book.

You have paid for the car - you are entitled to ownership. DVLA rules require changes of ownership to be notified pronto - if not someone it breaking the law. If you haven't got a V5 and its not registered to you with DVLA - how can you get it insured?

Look on the bright side though - think of all the parking tickets that can't be traced to you!

Windows/engine noise - sorry but no idea.

"What if you do not receive the identity documents

Unless you contact the DVLA within three months of the date you sent your application, DVLA will not be able to carry out the necessary follow up investigation both at the DVLA local office and with Royal Mail. They will not be liable to any claim after the three month period."

Thanks everyone for your replies.

I guessed that the engine noise is normal as it's more of a "ticky" noise. One other sound i've noticed is a slight buzzing/vibration at 1500 rpm. Sounds like a belt cover vibrating but again, im assuming it'll die away after i've done a few thousand miles.

Regarding the V5, i'm gonna ring DC Cook on monday as i'm also awaiting a free valet as the car was still waxy and dirty on delivery. Is there any way to check who the current owner is via DVLA? I had no trouble insuring it but i do wonder if it would be valid in the event of a claim if i'm not the registered owner...

The auto windows DO work ok - the fault was it's newbie owner.

As for the year of manufacture, which number is it? The sticker in my service book is the same as the one in the boot (as expected). I assume it's the only long code of letters/numbers which is in between the 3 bar codes? If that's the case, my 10th digit is a 7 which means 2007?
