Newbie VAG Com question

Waiting for my Octy 4x4 to arrive, it's being built this week! In the meantime I have watched this forum for some weeks and have one small question.
I found a site that had VAG Com software for a laptop, about £800, but also found some small units on E-Bay, which claim to be VAG Com units, for around £60. I would like access for small adjustments, like turning off the rear parking sensors when towing. Would these units do the job? Would they come with enough info to find the locations, or would I need additional documentation?

TIA

For an Octy II you're going to need a genuine cable, capable of speaking the CAN protocol. i.e. at least USB PC diagnostics package for CAN-only VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda cars (approx. 2004 onwards) :: Gendan Automotive Products.

I've got Micro-Can VagCom, suitable for Octy2 and Golf5 only. It's genuine RossTech cable, the only one that'll work 100%. There is UK dealer. I've got it from France, as it was cheaper to make bank transfer in euros. If you want one, you can get it for arround 200 pounds from UK dealer. Go for more expensive one (HexCan) only if you want to use it on some other VAG cars. I need it only for my Octy, so went for MicroCan. After you get the interface, you can download the software for free from RossTech site, as the interface cable has the registration built in.
