Noises from the rear

There has been a couple of threads running for some time about noises or bangs or bongs coming from the rear of the car whilst on poor or potholed roads. My Octavia saloon has been suffering from this for several months and after numerous attempts to find the cause including empting the boot of everything I believe I have found the culprit. The boot lid has a couple of adjustable stops just about were the lid bends, I noticed that they were worn slightly and if you looked very carefully when the lid is closed you can see a very small gap between the fixed part on the wing and the moving part on the lid. I adjusted the moving part (using a T30 Tork driver) up one notch on both sides and no more bongs, bangs or noises from the boot.

I also remembered that the boot required a firm hand to close it when the car was new but not recently and whilst I don't have to slam the lid now it does require a bit more force so I'll watch this in the future to see if more adjustments are required.

I had the boot lock adjusted in mine, due to the button key not fully opening the boot from the locking mechanism, I have noticed that it needs a much firmer closing now than before (before you could let it go from half way and it would close itself.).
