Hey, I was just today going to post the same thing. My 6 speed VRS is notchy as hell, normally worse when cold.

Tried everything including pushing the cluctch all the way down, waiting a couple of seconds and then shifting.....makes do difference....sometimes its silky smooth and others it feels like i didnt dip the clutch enough.

I had an MK2 golf back in the day that had a worn 2nd gear syncro. It feels like that but without the crunch sound

Because it it is a very strong design with an indirect gear change mechanism

If you want a slick box, go for a car with a direct change.

You're not alone, my 6 speeder's first gear is as notchy as a whore's bedpost, usually a clutch-out-clutch-in-again jobbie to find the gear. There is also a whining/squeaking noise appeared on the overrun when in second.

Ho hum..........
