Octavia 2.0 Tdi Sport - good choice?

Evening all,

currently the happy owner of a furby vRS, but just traded for an Octy II Sport 2.0 Tdi (I couldn't run to a diesel VRS octy.)

Few questions to any seasoned octavia drivers.

Economy - I get about 52mpg out of the Fabia on a run, most of my driving is motorway, presumably mid to high 40s should be achievable?

Servicing - any ballpark figures for a service? Presumably the variable interval means greater cost when it eventually needs doing?

thanks very much

Pete

Re: Octavia 2.0 Tdi Sport - good choice?

Around town making brisk progress I normaly see around mid 30s mpg (I have a heavy right foot) I would have thought you could improve on that quite easy.

On m-way easy 50+ mpg

I was quoted just over £200 for first service.

Im very happy with my Sport, im sure you will love yours

I agree on the MPG front. My daily commute comes in at around 52MPG each way, on a long run I can make 56MPG easily. The fuel economy drops off into the 40's though once you start going 80mph+.

Re: Octavia 2.0 Tdi Sport - good choice?

Calculated 43.62 over 14569 miles, based on fuel put in and mileage travelled since new. Maxidot kept telling me i was getting averages of 47 or better on the No2 overall average display. However, as the odometer is not quite true either, take what maxidot tells you with a big pinch of salt, and know that in real life that 43.62 is probably a little bit overstated as well.
I have now done 27k miles, but gave up on recording it accurately, as there is more to life.

I believe this is only available if financing through skoda finance, so if you use an alternative method then its pay for servicing.

I paid £185 for my variable service, which is comparable in price to the main 20K service if on fixed.

quote from website.

Furthermore, if you purchase your New Octavia on a ŠkodaAuto Finance Solutions personal contract plan you will receive FREE MAINTENANCE** for 3 years or 30,000 miles, whichever comes sooner.

So that means you save £185 by taking out a finance agreement.

That means it has changed in the last couple of weeks. I certainly got free servicing on car delivered 26th October. I think free maintenance is something else which does depend on uing their finance. It covers things like brake pad replacements etc. in addition to normal servicing.
Look again at the website, (I just did) It makes BOTH offers.

The free servicing offer does require a change to fixed mileage service intervals, every 10,000 instead of variable, but for the sort of use our car has, that is probably more appropriate anyway, according to the handbook. In the 3 years you get 2 oil changes and 1 full service.

Re: Octavia 2.0 Tdi Sport - good choice?

I picked up my Vrs Tdi on the 6th Nov (ordered middle of Oct) and have the first 3 services free, i didn't have finance, so you may need to check it out to see if the terms have changed since.
With doing quite a few miles it's not a bad saving, i may get it changed to variable after the 3rd service.

I was told that once you have switched to fixed interval servicing, you can't switch back to variable.

Re: Octavia 2.0 Tdi Sport - good choice?

My 1.9 Tdi was switched to variable at 4 years and 80,000 miles by my local Skoda dealer.

A whopping £350 it set me back but with another 20,000 before the next one I thought what the heck.

Here I am 2 months later trading it in for 2 litre.

D'oh.

Re: Octavia 2.0 Tdi Sport - good choice?

I double checked with the salesman about changing back to Variable servicing once i've had the 3rd service done and the offer has finished and he said it was no problem doing that, whether i actually do it is another thing though because as the miles pile on i'm not that comfortable with the engine going up to 20,000 on the same oil and other bits n bobs not being checked over, in theory it should be okay but i'll more than likely keep on fixed intervals, for my piece of mind rather than any other reason.

Re: Octavia 2.0 Tdi Sport - good choice?

I read the manual ( I know very anal ) It suggests that variable servicing is suitable for high annual mileage cars with good proportion of long distance journeys, and not frequent stop/start.
Fixed is more suitable if lots of cold starts, short journeys.
We tend to the latter with fewer motorway journeys, so fixed is probably better anyway for us?
