There was a production fault on some model Octavias, there was a seal under the front wings left off, it requires removing the wing to fix. Two of my mates had theirs done.

Tezza that certainly sounds interesting, please do let us know how you get on.
Going back to dealers Tuesday, the replacement part did not fix the creak. Sounds to me that it is coming from the front. Also the rear parking sensors failed just prior to last visit to the dealers so waiting to have a sensor replaced. Faint dry bearing noise is still coming from air con. not been able to do anything with that for the last three visits to the dealer. Just had a new windscreen fitted as last one was becoming delaminated but this was handy for removing the dashboard to fix the various vibrations and rattles from behind the dash !!

Not sure how much longer I will keep this car as it is turning out to be a big disapointment to me.

Got any more info on this at all? What age of car, purpose of the seal etc?

This is a seriously useful thread, should it be made a 'sticky'
Any idea if theres a difference between the new and the old Vents ? I had mine replaced today but they were identical to the old one...same part number and all. I was told thats the only ones they have. Someone told me that the top of them no longer have a metal mesh. Any info appreciated.

Re: Octavia II Common Faults or Problems and the Fixes

Hi,
anyone else got a flat spot around 1900 - 2200rpm? most noticable if you are in
3rd gear (1.9tdi 4x4 now done @4k miles) and ease the power on gently under a bit of load, say going up a hill. Been back to the dealer once, wouldn't repeat, typical, but they had a demonstrator that did the same. No fix as yet.
Any help much appreciated, it's getting in the way of enjoying an otherwise great car.

Re: Octavia II Common Faults or Problems and the Fixes

I had missing lumber support on the driver seat, but it was fitted to the passenger seat. Sept 05 Ambient 2.0 Tdi Hatch.

Turned out to be a "miss-manufacture".

With excellent assistance from Pant Waen Garage, my local dealer, the missing lumber unit was fitted under warranty.

Re: Octavia II Common Faults or Problems and the Fixes

I have Audience with 12 speakers Sound System. Since the day 1 woofers (if I can call them that) introduced a lot of vibration. It turned to be not the loudspeaker itself but the door trim. I'm talking about front doors only because on the back it's OK. Dealer said there was nothing to do as it has been done that way on factory and changing door trims would give the same result. So, I went looking for exact spot of trim vibrations. I found it. Then it was many days of thinking what to do to calm down vibrations on that spot. After few ideas, I made a little support for each of front doors and painted it black matte. It doesn't bother the way it looks and no vibrations at all. I've even tried it on max level and windows almost popped out but no more vibrations.
I'm not sure if people here are interested in my "patent". If yes, I'll have to do some photos and little diagram, and also take exact measures of parts I made. They are made of aluminium, supported by themselves. No drilling of the door trims.
Just let me know if you need it.

Our 1.9Tdi 4x4 had the same problem - very hard to duplicate, and not notioceable on every journey, but definately there. I didnt bother taking it to the dealers for it, and we've now swapped it for the 2.0Tdi 4x4 instead.

I had read somewhere that Skoda knew of the problem and were working on a fix - but I've not seen a post saying that they had released one.

I've done a quick search and some suggest that this is normal turbo lag - I guess it could be, but to have it in just 1 spot seems odd to me - so I'd put my money on it being an ECU derived flat spot of some sort.

After about an hour's stop/start driving with the DSG left in Drive on the Paris périphérique last summer when the outside temperature was in the high 20s/low 30s, the DSG box gave up changing gear, staying in 1st all the time though it was possible to shift between neutral/reverse/first. Manual changes were also affected. Temperature gauge showed 90 degrees.
Stopping the car, switching the ignition off, then restarting cured it -- but since this coincided with an end to the traffic snarl up and the start of more fluid traffic conditions (and hence airflow through the radiators), it's difficult to say whether it was overheating, or just an electronic fault that needed resetting.
There's an overheating protection on the DSG-gearbox (see page 159 of the Dutch manual - in the English one it should be around the same page number I guess).

Forgot about posting here however...

New sensors have fixed one car and kind of fixed the other car, however that is going to get looked at again.

Noticed over the weekend both cars have a de-laminating front screen and one of them needs a new DMF.

EDIT: All now fixed under warrenty
