One of the main criticisms I had of my Elegance was that the instruments and the LCD display were almost invisible in even slightly dull conditions. The consensus seemed to be that I should turn the parking lights on to make the display visible. This contrasts (no pun intended!) with the instrument display on my wife's Honda Jazz which is permanently illuminated. I think Skoda are way behind on this as many modern cars have far better displays.
I've spent ages trying to find a way of having the instruments always lit but without success.

Possibly where they save a bit of money. Anyhow reading all that data is depressing, seeing how many miles you have to the tank before having to refuel.

Re: Octavia info display

Thanks for your comments. By coincidence my wife also has a Honda Jazz. Maybe if I had gone for the Maxidot things would be a little brighter?

Strange coincidence! I'm getting an L&K next week with maxi dot so I'll let you know. However, from a test run, the speedo and rev counter are still difficult to make out unless the lights are on.

Why do you fail to mention glasses or laser eye surgery seeing as you are being cheeky!

Agree. My last car,a Toyota Avensis, had the Optitron dash lights - whatever they were. Anyway they instruments lights were always and it did make it easier to read as no matter what the outside conditions - bright sunlight or cloudy you could see all the instruments with a quick glance as there were no reflections to deal with.

However a few posters on the Toyota forums who moved to Avensis, Corolla etc then complained that they forgot to put their lights on at night becuase as the instrument panel was lit up they thought the lights were already on......you can't win them all!
